The 2021 Land Rover Discovery is one of the major debuts by the JLR for the next season. The seven-seater will follow the footsteps of its premium sibling, Range Rover Sport. In 2021, we will see the new drivetrain – a mild-hybrid system. A pair of V6 units is already there. Now, the Disco will offer petrol, diesel, and hybrid configurations. The V8 is not an option yet, neither does the SVR performance-oriented version. If you are after the maximum power, then the luxury SUV is a better option.
The upcoming SUV will go through a mid-cycle update. British journalist managed to pick up the info about engines, but the redesign details are not available yet. The current generation of the vehicle debuted in 2017 and the upcoming facelift is the first serious modification on the body. Meanwhile, we saw the update of the technology. The 2021 Land Rover Discovery will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features as standard while dropping the navigation. We will definitely see another trim level next season. For 2020, Jaguar-Land Rover added the Landmark edition, which will be available for years to come.

2021 Land Rover Discovery Hybrid
So far, regulations in Europe were easier to meet, especially about efficiency and emissions. However, the new restrictions are making carmakers develop new units to stay competitive. That is why the JLR is considering the mid-hybrid version for the 2021 Land Rover Discovery. According to rumors, this configuration will be based on a diesel unit. In Europe, the midsize SUV is using both 2.0 and 3.0 displacements, while the US buyers can find only a larger mill in their dealerships.
The supercharged diesel is able to produce 240 horsepower. The data shows emissions of about 194-197 g/km. A 48-volt hybrid system would fix it and drop the level of gasses sent to air. However, we cannot expect spectacular things. Sooner or later, all carmakers will have to leave diesel units.
We cannot say no to the existing configuration for the Range Rover Sport. The premium SUV in the P400e option is combining a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol powerplant and electric battery. Engineers created a mighty PHEV unit that is capable to produce 395 ponies and 472 pound-feet of torque. Still, the vehicle is not focused on improving the fuel economy, returning only 19 mpg combined. Still, the 2021 Disco will be able to cover some range by using only the electric power. Well, the outputs are yet to be announced, as well as the final version of the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Hybrid.

Standard Units
Even after the update, fans will see a pair of V6 engines currently available on the Disco. Supercharged petrol and turbodiesel provide enough power and torque for this large SUV, so a V8 is not an option. An upcoming PHEV setup will boost power output, so there is no need for a larger displacement.
A 3.0-liter inline-six is launching 340 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Well, we can get the same outcome from other models using the same drivetrain. But, the Discovery offers the highest towing capacity in the lineup with 8,200 lbs. The impressive numbers are paid with high fuel consumption. The SUV returns only 18 mpg.
If this is important, a 3.0 turbodiesel is a much better option with 23 mpg combined. This one will also deliver more twisting power, 445 pound-feet. On the other hand, compared to the petrol mill, a V6 diesel falls 95 hp short and 500 pounds of towing capacity. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard for both engines, transferring power to all wheels. You won’t make mistake by taking any of these configurations off the road. Discovery has always offered a supreme performance in tough terrains.
2021 Land Rover Discovery Mid-Cycle Update
Sources unveiled details about the hybrid upgrade, but the company is yet to decide which updates to apply on its seven-seater. However, the standard configuration includes only two rows and five spots. For the vehicle 195 inches long, we could see the third row as standard already next season. Plus, the JLR designers will have a lot of work updating the infotainment system and all the features this vehicle is offering. Disco is not equipped as its luxury sibling, but a 10-inch screen, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and 12-way adjustable power seats are definitely options we will see on the 2021 YM.
Designers will still have some work on the exterior as well. Lighter materials in the body can make the SUV more efficient and durable. Still, the styling is attractive, so no major modifications are expected.

2021 Land Rover Discovery Price and Release Date
The mid-size SUV is already one of the most expensive models in this segment. For $50,000 we can purchase some of the luxury vehicles. Still, its premium sibling, Range Rover Sport is $20,000 higher. The 2021 Land Rover Discovery will keep the price as low as possible. Precise pricing will be available when the company launches the new model, probably in late fall.
