For the second year of production, the current-generation Tiguan definitely shouldn’t feature more important changes. We have seen a complete redesign recently, which has brought lots of novelties in various aspects. There is a completely new design which brings more attractive styling, new interior design, completely new mechanics and much more. Of course, lists of standard equipment have been expanded as well. All this clearly indicates that the 2019 VW Tiguan is about to continue in the same way, offering a well-equipped cabin, new design and much more. Expect to see the new version late in the year, though the exact release date still needs to be specified.
2019 VW Tiguan Specs
When it comes to base 2019 VW Tiguan specs, the upcoming model definitely continues in the same way. The recent redesign has brought a lot of novelties. Of course, the most important is a new platform. Just like all new compact and many mid-size models from the VW Group, it gets a new, highly modular MQB platform, which brings improvement in terms of efficiency, as well as in terms of driving dynamics. It is important to mention that the new generation comes in two variants, with standard and stretched wheelbase. In North America, you can count on long-wheelbase versions only.
In terms of styling, the 2019 VW Tiguan will continue with the recently receive new design language. Compared to the previous generation, you can notice a much sharper approach, especially at the front end, where you can see new rectangular headlights and grille, things that characterize pretty much all new models from the German manufacturer. On the other side, the overall shape looks pretty close to the original model. Similar proportions are something we’ve expected from a manufacturer that is well-known for its conventional design approach.
2019 VW Tiguan Interior
As we already mentioned, the U.S. version of this crossover comes with a stretched wheelbase. This makes the new model bigger. On the inside, this leaves enough space to install three rows of seating, which are a standard feature in base models. On the other side, the third row is optional in lower trims if you choose all-wheel drive. The 2019 VW Tiguan should continue in the same way. First and second rows are pretty spacious and offer a lot of comforts.
On the other side, the third row is pretty tight and definitely can’t accommodate adults. Besides plenty of practicality and spacious cargo area, you can also count on high-quality materials. In this aspect, the Tiguan is pretty much on par with other class leaders.
2019 VW Tiguan Trim Levels
A list of standard equipment is also pretty long. The organization of equipment groups is about to remain the same. Once again, we will see four trim levels in the offer – S, SE, SEL, SEL Premium.
The base S model is everything but not a bare bone. You can count on a 6.5-inch touchscreen, 17-inch wheels, roof rails, rearview camera, smartphone integration etc. Also, there is an optional Driver Assistance package with safety features like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Most buyers, though, would probably go for the SE model, which doesn’t cost much more but adds some very interesting things. The Driver Assist package is standard, as well as a bigger 8-inch touchscreen. Other interesting standard features are dual-zone climate control, satellite radio, power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated seats and much more.
If you choose the SEL trim, you will enjoy additional features like 18-inch wheels, remote start, navigation, adaptive cruise control, power liftgate etc.
Finally, there is the SEL Premium, which adds lots of great things. First of all, there is a full load of driver-assistance systems, including parking camera system, lane departure warning and intervention, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic high-beam control. Also, you can count on things like premium 9-speaker Fender audio system, leather upholstery, hands-free power tailgate, adaptive LED headlights and much more.
2019 VW Tiguan Engine
Probably the biggest disadvantage of this crossover is a lack of engine options. Unfortunately, the 2019 VW Tiguan will continue in the same way. You can count on the same 2.0-liter gasoline engine, which will be the only option for this compact SUV. It delivers around 184 horsepower and comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It delivers quite decent performances, though many competitors have much more to offer, not just in terms of power, but in dynamics as well. Also, many competitors feature better mph ratings. This crossover returns around 22 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway.
2019 VW Tiguan Release Date and Price
When it comes to the 2019 VW Tiguan release date, expect to see it late in the year. We won’t see bigger changes in price, so the base S models will go around 24.500 dollars. SE and SEL trims go around 27.000 and 31.000 dollars, respectively. Finally, the SEL Premium starts at 36.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Toyota Rav4, Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and others.
