2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport specs

The Outlander Sport has been riding around for years. Therefore, it’s not strange that many reports suggest a complete redesign in the near future. The current generation is on the market since 2010. Considering how things are going in today’s automotive world, as well as that we are talking about the segment of subcompact crossovers, this seems like way too long time without a complete overhaul. On the other side, updates were numerous, so we have seen something like three facelifts so far. In any case, the end of the production cycle is near. Latest news is that the 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport will be the last year model of the current generation and the new model will come during next year, with a completely new layout, based on Renault Nissan platforms. Therefore, don’t expect to see important changes for the 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, which will arrive late in the year.

2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Redesign

In terms of base design characteristics and overall layout, the 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport will be a pretty old vehicle. Initially introduced in 2010, this small crossover rides on a familiar GS platform, which has been used and still is in use for a plethora of models from Mitsubishi and PSA Group.

The Outlander Sport is a typical subcompact crossover. With the small size and high ground clearance, it is a good urban cruiser, though it can handle some country roads as well. The next year definitely won’t bring anything more important, especially in terms of mechanics. It will be farewell year-model of the current generation if we can rely on the latest reports. The next generation will come soon after and we hope it will be much better.

2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Styling

Styling changes are also not expected for the next year. For these 9 years of production, we have seen several changes to the styling. With frequent updates, the company tried to keep this model fresh. Therefore, we counted three facelifts in total, which is way too much, even for such a long production cycle. The last one happened a couple of years ago and it included changes on both ends of the vehicle. Still, the changes weren’t so intense, so the base layout remained the same. A model for the next year will continue in the same way, and the best we could get is a couple of new color options.

2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Interior

Unlike the exterior, the cabin of this crossover didn’t receive that many updates. So, 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport will definitely look outdated, compared to much younger competitors. This particularly refers to the dashboard design, which looks blend for today’s standards. On the other side, the overall quality is pretty decent. Most materials are soft on touch, while those hard plastic surfaces seem very durable.

In terms of functionality, this crossover offers seating for five. Both rows are surprisingly spacious for the segment, so adults can comfortably ride in the second row as well. The cargo area is pretty spacious as well. You can count on an above-average volume behind rear seats, which goes around 22 cubic feet. On the other side, the overall cargo capacity goes around 50 cubic feet, which are pretty average numbers for the class. There are probably two major complaints when it comes to this cabin. The first one is the driver’s seating position, which is quite high, which could bother some drivers. The other one is poor rear visibility, due to massive back pillars and small mirrors.

2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Features

When it comes to standard features, you can count on a pretty decent list of equipment. Base models come with cloth upholstery and manually-adjustable front seats. In higher trims, you can get things like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated seats as well. In terms of tech features, a good thing is that all versions are equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen. Things like HD Radio, four speakers, Bluetooth, and a USB are standard as well, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard in all but base trim level.

2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Engines

This is probably the weakest point of this crossover. There are two engines in the offer and both seem underpowered. Additionally, fuel economy isn’t spectacular at all. Base models come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which is good for about 148 horsepower. It doesn’t accelerate pretty quickly, but the bigger problem is actually the noise it makes.

An optional 2.4-liter unit is good for about 168 horsepower. It accelerates better and it is much quieter. Definitely a better choice. Base models come with an outdated 5-speed automatic gearbox, while higher trims offer CVT.
