2021 Mitsubishi Pajero Future Under Question Mark

2021 Mitsubishi Pajero price

It’s been a long time since the current generation of Mitsubishi’s largest SUV stepped into the market. The new generation is not scheduled yet. The new, 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero is going to be unchanged. It takes the position in the full-size segment and we won’t see it in the US. Well, the vehicle can’t compete with big rigs in this part of the world without the huge displacement. Pajero offers six different configurations, and the largest one is a 3.8-liter MiVec V6.

The simplicity is an advantage of the 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero. The SUV comes with a clean design of a dashboard and enough space for all passengers. The 4×4 is capable of urban and off-road drive, as well as the highway ride. However, other carmakers are now far ahead of Mitsubishi with design and technology. Well, updates are not enough and Pajero still looks old. The third row is very tiny and the interior overhaul must be the priority.

The Final Run?

There are two ways for the iconic nameplate. It is clear that heavy investments are required to stay competitive. The carmaker didn’t decide about the future of its legendary SUV. Well, we can be optimistic thanks to the Pajero Sport version. Smaller classes are more popular nowadays, so the carmaker could turn to this sportier version of the big rig.

Without changes, the 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero is not going to draw new customers. Every new version without big updates won’t do it either. So, the situation is crystal clear – the new generation or further stagnation and discontinuation. The company is focusing on Pajero Sport and Outback, including the hybrid version.

2021 Mitsubishi Pajero Specs (Diesel Units)

As said, most of the engine lineup for the 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero are diesel engines. The smallest displacement is a 2.4-liter unit, available in China only. Emission standards are improved, but the four-cylinder engine is capable to deliver respectable outputs. Chinese buyers are getting 180 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.

However, the most favorite version is a 3.2-liter Di-D model with 190 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of twist. It is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission, which distributes the energy to all four corners of the SUV. Fuel consumption is around 9 liters per 100 km (26 mpg US), while the reports from the field say the SUV consumes nearly 11 l/100km (21 mpg US).

You will also find the 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero with a 2.8, 3.5, and 3.8 models. However, besides a 3.2-liter version, all others are available in fewer markets. In China, Pajero comes with a 2.4 and 3.0 displacements. Also, somewhere you will find the SUV with a manual gearbox.

Fog lights are available at higher trim levels, while DRLs are there on the base model. Side steps will make the entrance to this SUV with 8.5 inches of ground clearance. Body-colored bumpers are standard for the entire lineup and more optional features we find with rain-sensitive wipers and xenon lights.

Dimensions and Pajero Sport

The 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero will be 4,900 mm long (193 inches). The vehicle is shorter than full-size SUVs in the US. Most of them are above 200 inches. But, there is a shorter model by Mitsubishi. Pajero two-door is 172 inches long (4,385 mm) and provides better handling and maneuvering impression. Still, this vehicle lacks power and cargo space. The total cargo capacity of the SUV is 63.5 cubic feet (1,800 liters).

Pajero Sport entered the new generation in 2016. The vehicle brought new hope to the carmaker’s fans, but it seems like the full-size model is not a priority at this moment. Instead, Mitsubishi will continue to develop a new unit for the sportier SUV. It uses a 3.0-liter petrol V6, which could get a green light to enter the US market. The masterplan is to create a hybrid version of this SUV, which is only 5 inches shorter than the full-size version.

2021 Mitsubishi Pajero Release Date

The debut of the 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero will be silent and without big marketing actions. The Japanese manufacturer focuses on the smaller and newer vehicles which are eligible to compete in the US market. Still, the full-size SUV class is pretty active in the Far East. The new Pajero will see old rivals – Nissan Patrol, Ford Everest, and Toyota Land Cruiser.
