The 2020 Ford Everest is going to be improved for the next season. Updates will improve off-road skills and practicality. Well, the body-on-frame SUVs based on trucks are pretty popular in Pacific Asia and Australia. So, we have a Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest as the best examples. Thanks to the rigid platform, these vehicles are very durable. A more aggressive appearance is the highlight of the upcoming SUV. Well, the downside is a price. Buyers pay significantly more than for smaller unibody crossovers.
For 2020 YM, Ford will introduce a few changes. We already know that the nose is getting a chromed grille and the fresh look of the bumper. However, spy photos are not confirming that updates are spreading all over the 2020 Ford Everest. Side and the back of the truck are the same. 20-inch wheels are still there, as well as the same look of taillights. Trim levels are still unknown, but the Titanium model is going to be the most equipped in the lineup.
New Engine, New Transmission
Besides the cosmetic updates, the new 2020 Ford Everest will get a new drivetrain. Well, the SUV is already versatile, with a few options available for its buyers. The fresh source of power is a 2.0-liter EcoBlue four-cylinder unit. A turbodiesel engine is capable of producing 215 horsepower.
It is not the only update for the 2020 Everest. The new combination uses an EcoBlue engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission. It replaces a 6-speed gearbox and delivers a smoother and more efficient drive. We still don’t have precise numbers, but the 2.0-liter turbodiesel unit will definitely consume less fuel than any of the existing powertrain. We can’t compare it to other vehicles that use the same engine since Everest is pretty large and heavy SUV.
The new engine is not replacing powertrains. So we will still have various options, including a 2.2-liter unit, which is also under the hood of the Ford Ranger Raptor Euro-spec model. With 180 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, we can expect superb off-road skills. Well, the company keeps a 6-speed transmission as a pair for the old drivetrain.
The oldest engine in the lineup is a 3.2-liter Duratorq mill. This one is the most capable unit with 200 hp and 345 lb-ft of torque. There are a lot of differences in drivetrain setups as well, including different shocks and suspension. By purchasing the 2020 Ford Everest with a new engine, you will get a sportier ride and the SUV ready to jump off the road. On the other hand, a Duratorq unit is not bad as well, but the overall system needs an update to provide a smoother ride.
What’s New For the 2020 Ford Everest?
As said, the new 2020 Ford Everest is refreshed. This is a mid-cycle update since the current generation was launched in 2015. Furthermore, changes in its close sibling, Ranger truck, are causing updates on the SUV. The new Everest is getting a fresh look upfront. Tweaked bumper, chromed three-bar grille, and bright headlights are changes worth of mention. Well, many enthusiasts expected a redesign, but the update starts and finishes on the nose.
2020 Ford Everest Interior and Safety
We believe that Ford is going to refresh the interior of its big rig. With a length of 193 inches, there is plenty of room inside the cabin. The default layout includes five seats, while a seven-seater is optional. The off-roader offers enough comfort even with this configuration.
Safety is one of the essential parts. The unibody platform is safer than a body-on-frame architecture, but Everest is getting the highest grades in this segment. Well, it is not by chance, since the SUV is equipped with plenty of advanced features, including anti-lock brakes with electronically distributed force, and stability control.
You can always upgrade your ride with optional packages and features. For example, the first choice you will have to make is a 4×2 or 4×4 drive. We recommend the late one if you are an adventurer. A rear-view camera is another cool upgrade that helps with parking and checking surrounding objects.
2020 Ford Everest Price, Competition
The new 2020 Ford Everest is the SUV for the Far East. In India, you can find this model as Endeavour. Both Ford’s vehicles will fight Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero. All SUVs are built by using the same idea – modified trucks for an off-road drive. When we convert prices to USD, we get around $30,000. For example, the Ford Explorer is slightly more expensive. Toyota 4Runner is more costly, but also more similar to Everest with BoF architecture. Still, upgrades can make the SUV cost nearly $50,000 with a 4×4 and Titanium trim level.
