By Once upon a time, there was an SUV that made full-size SUVs like Expedition and Suburban look small. That was the Ford Excursion, an SUV based on heavy-duty pickups, which was and still is a pretty unusual design approach. This model was in production between 1999 and 2006. The production ended for several reasons. Sales were impressive of course, while the oncoming gas crisis made the SUV even less desirable. However, things are a little bit different these days and it looks like we could see this nameplate in use once again, as the 2023 Ford Excursion.
We don’t believe that the new iteration would come with a much different design approach compared to the original. Once again, we would see an SUV that’s based on Ford’s Super Duty series. Of course, we would expect to see the implementation of the latest technologies, while another thing that comes to mind is the size, which could be even bigger than before.
At this point, there are no words from the officials, so make sure to take this article with a big reserve.
2023 Ford Excursion Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Ford Excursion is just a rumor, for now, so we can only rely on speculations. Still, it’s easy to predict that, if this SUV is about to come, we will see the same base design approach as in the case of the original. In other words, the new Excursion would once again share most of its parts with the F-250. Such a design approach would make this SUV special in so many ways, starting from the rugged chassis and suspension setup, which would make this SUV super capable and durable.
Of course, there is also the matter of styling. We presume that a lot of inspiration would be taken from the F-250. This particularly refers to the front end, which should look the same or very similar. The rest of the vehicle would feature a long, wagon body, which would ensure tremendous amounts of space on the inside.
Interior
Of course, the main thing about this cabin would be the amount of space. From what we can hear, rumors suggest over 140 inches in wheelbase. That would mean plenty of space for three generous rows of seats, which would all be able to accommodate taller passengers with ease. Furthermore, this would also mean a cavernous cargo area. Although it’s still early to talk about numbers, we presume that the overall cargo volume would go way over 150 cubic feet.
When it comes to the dashboard design, we presume that things would look pretty much the same as in the pickup siblings. The 2023 Ford Excursion would feature a truckish cabin design, with rather durable than fine materials. On the other hand, we count on a full load of the latest tech goodies, including the latest generation of the SYNC infotainment system, which comes with a massive touchscreen. Naturally, we count on a full load of advanced safety systems as well.
2023 Ford Excursion Engines
This aspect shouldn’t bring any bigger surprise. The current Super Duty engine lineup includes three units. We presume that the base 6.2-liter V8 wouldn’t be offered in this SUV. Instead, the base 2023 Ford Excursion would rather come with a new 7.3-liter V8, which features a max output of 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. We also believe that the 2023 Ford Excursion could be offered in a diesel version as well. This would probably be a far more interesting choice, thanks to the monstrous numbers that come from the 6.7-liter V8 turbodiesel, which puts out 475 horsepower and 1.050 pound-feet of torque.
Both engines would come coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
2023 Ford Excursion Release Date and Price
As we already mentioned, the 2023 Ford Excursion is still just a rumor. The officials are still quiet, so its arrival should be taken with a big reserve. Still, if it eventually arrives, we presume that the base price would go around 65-70.000 dollars.
