2023 Ford Escape Facelift: Refresh, Hybrid, ST

2023 Ford Escape

Ford’s player in the world’s most demanding car segment has been around for a long time. The current generation was introduced in 2019 and if we can trust the latest reports, a mid-cycle refresh is on the way. At this point, the officials are still quiet but if we consider the model’s usual production cycle, this might be a perfect time for an update of the model that has to compete with some of the most popular cars in the world, such as Toyota RAV4 or Honda HR-V.

We can only speculate about the possible changes for the 2023 Ford Escape but we are pretty sure that the core of these updates will be aesthetics. This means things like refreshed styling, but also visual novelties on the inside. Naturally, we also count on more standard and available equipment. On the other hand, things under the hood probably won’t change much.

The 2023 Ford Escape should hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022.

When it comes to the overall design, we don’t expect changes. The 2023 Ford Escape will continue with the same mechanics, which offers a good balance between comfort and agile handling. That balance has always been Escape’s main strength, so there are no reasons why things should continue in the same way.

On the other hand, we expect that the next year’s model will come with a couple of nice styling updates. They probably won’t be radical, but we count on subtle revisions in areas like headlights, grille, bumper etc. The rear end could come with a few changes too. Finally, we count on typical mid-cycle updates, such as new wheels, color options etc.

Interior

From the inside, we presume that the 2023 Ford Escape won’t change too much. We expect to see a familiar layout, which still looks nice and appealing. This cabin doesn’t look as fancy as the cabins from some rivals, such as Mazda CX-5 or VW Tiguan, but the overall quality is good. The materials are mostly soft to the touch, while the build quality is decent enough. Also, we have no doubt that many drivers like the fact that this crossover still keeps a lot of physical controls, especially older generations.

This cabin also offers a decent amount of passenger space. The cabin is spacious enough to accommodate adults in both rows of seats, while the front ones also offer very good support and overall comfort. The cargo area offers around 37.5 cubic feet behind the second row, while the total capacity goes up to 65.4 cubic feet. That’s above-average for the segment, but still less compared to models like Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester etc.

Features

We presume that this update will also bring novelties regarding the standard and available equipment. Still, you should keep in mind that the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect, so we will hardly see anything significant. One of the changes we expect to see is a touchscreen interface as a standard feature. The current 4.2-inch screen in base models should be dropped and replaced with an 8-inch touchscreen. On the other hand, a higher trim level could get a bigger one, similar to the screen found in the new Mustang Mach E.

Base models will also come standard with things like a USB port, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker stereo, which upgrades are expected to come with things like Wi-Fi hot spot, navigation, a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, satellite radio, panoramic sunroof etc.

2023 Ford Escape Engines

Things under the hood should remain the same for the next year. So, base models will probably continue with a 1.5-liter engine, which puts out 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. While that’s enough for daily commuting, we believe that the optional 2.0-liter turbo-four is a far better choice, as it offers a max output of 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come in pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which does a pretty fine job too.

The 2023 Ford Escape will also come in two hybrid variants. The first one features a classic hybrid setup, based on a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with two electric motors. The total output goes up to 200 horsepower. A plug-in hybrid version is also available, with more powerful electric motors and a total output of 221 horsepower. This version also features a larger 14.4-kWh battery package, which ensures up to 37 miles of the all-electric range.

2023 Ford Escape Release Date and Price

We presume that the 2023 Ford Escape will arrive sometime in the second half of 2022. Also, the price shouldn’t change significantly, so base versions will probably go around 27.000 dollars. The Hybrid should feature a starting price of around 29.000 dollars.
