2022 Honda CR-V Render

Despite it’s been around since 2016, the current generation of Honda’s compact crossover is still among the best models in the class and still marks impressive sales numbers. Naturally, Honda wants to retain this position and that’s why the 2022 Honda CR-V is about to receive a redesign. The testing model has been spotted and we expect that the new generation will hit the market either late this year or in the first half of 2022. In any case, there’s no doubt that the new model will become even better.

Considering the fact that the current model is still pretty amazing, as well as the fact that this is one of the most important models for Honda, there is no doubt that Japanese engineers won’t experiment too much with the new model. We expect rather evolutionary changes, while the things that are currently considered drawbacks will be in the focus, to improve.

2022 Honda CR-V Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the upcoming redesign probably won’t bring any radical changes. The new 2022 Honda CR-V will stick to the proven recipe, so the mechanical aspect should remain pretty much the same. Still, smaller tweaks in terms of suspension setup should happen, in order to provide an even better driving experience.

The test mule has already been spotted on the road and despite the camouflage, we can already see some interesting things. The first one refers to the overall shape, which will be slightly different compared to the outgoing version. Despite the camouflage, we can clearly see a little bit different shape, with a longer hood. The rear overhang also seems a little bit longer, which clearly indicates that the 2022 Honda CR-V could become bigger. Some sources suggest that Honda is testing a three-row version.

Styling

When it comes to the styling, it is still early to talk about details, considering the camouflage. Still, we can see a little bit different overall shape, as we already mentioned, which should provide a little bit more upscale look. On the other side, the image of the front end is still unclear. From what we have heard, the new model will take a lot of inspiration from the Accord, so we might see similarly designed headlights and grille. Still, take all this with a reserve.

Interior

The current model looks pretty good from the inside, but it looks like Honda engineers want to make it look even better. From what we know so far, the 2022 Honda CR-V will most likely feature a dashboard that’s pretty similar to the one in the upcoming Civic. This means a more upscale shape, while we also count on finer materials and more tech goodies. Speaking of tech goodies, one of the interior highlights will certainly be a new infotainment screen. It will come with a large diameter and tablet-like layout. We hope it will be more intuitive than the current one, which is probably the weakest point of the outgoing generation.

We have no doubt that the new model will continue to offer impressive amounts of space. The current generation is already among the most spacious models in the class. Both rows are very generous with space, so we expect nothing less from the new one. Also, a three-row version seems like a certain thing. This variant will probably come with a stretched wheelbase and should be offered in certain markets only, including North America.

The cargo area should also offer some of the class-leading numbers. The current model is already pretty impressive in this aspect. It offers around 39.2 cubic feet behind the second row and 75.8 cubic feet of the overall cargo space.

2022 Honda CR-V Engines

Most likely, the 2022 Honda CR-V won’t feature bigger changes under the hood. The base model is expected to carry on with the same 1.5-liter turbo-four, which puts around 190 horsepower and comes in pair with a CVT gearbox. This setup offers pretty impressive driving dynamics and, at the same time, fuel economy is really good.

Naturally, the new generation will also be offered in a hybrid version. We presume that the setup will be pretty similar to the current model, which combines electric motors and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, for a total output of 212 horsepower. We presume that the new version of the powertrain could offer more power, better fuel economy etc.

2022 Honda CR-V Release Date and Price

As we already mentioned, the 2022 Honda CR-V should hit the market either in late 2021 or in the first half of the next year. The current model starts at around 26.000 dollars and we don’t expect that the new model could cost much higher. Some of the key competitors are models like Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester etc.
