The current generation of Honda’s compact crossover has been around for nearly five years and given the company’s usual production cycles, we are pretty sure it will remain in production for a few more years. Also, if we consider the 2020 facelift, it’s pretty certain that the 2022 Honda CR-V will come without more important changes. Simply, the current model is already considered the best compact SUV on the market by many experts and sales numbers are great. So, there is no need for bigger changes.
Therefore, you may count on a familiar layout, which makes this SUV the most versatile model in the class. It is spacious, practical, fuel-efficient and reliable. Those are the things most buyers in this segment are looking for and while some models may be more fun to drive, just a few of them can compete in the aforementioned aspects. The best we could see for the next year are smaller tweaks in terms of standard equipment. We expect to see the new model sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2022 Honda CR-V Redesign
Design-wise, not many things have changed since the initial launch in 2016. The overall layout is the same, while the biggest changes came with the 2020 refresh. For that occasion, we saw revisions in terms of the styling but even those weren’t particularly notable. The updated model came with some tweaks on the grille and bumpers but the overall appearance remained the same. Therefore, we definitely don’t expect visual changes for the 2022 Honda CR-V. However, there is always a chance of a new color option in the offer.
The same thing goes for the interior design. Models like Mazda CX-5 may look more upscale, but the overall quality is definitely on a high level in this compact crossover. It comes with nice materials, while the build quality and precision are at a high level as well. More importantly, the dashboard offers very good ergonomics, while the driving position is excellent. The sound insulation is good, while visibility is great in all directions.
Still, the CR-V has always been all about space and practicality and the current generation is still a class-leader in this aspect. When it comes to the passenger space, both rows are very generous and offer plenty of legroom, even for taller passengers. Still, the cargo area is the thing we like most. You may count on class-leading numbers, which go around 39.2 cubic feet behind the second row and 75.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. The cargo capacity is slightly lower in the hybrid version, due to the battery pack.
Probably the only thing that can be considered a major drawback on this crossover is the list of standard equipment, which should definitely be longer. Base models still use a small 5-inch audio display, while there are also things like a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and a USB port, as well as automatic climate control. Fortunately, things are much better once you step up to higher trim levels. There, you can get goodies like a 7-inch touch- screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, an additional front USB port, two rear USB ports, an eight-speaker stereo, wireless device charging, navigation, a nine-speaker premium stereo, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, remote start, proximity keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, and interior ambient lighting.
On the other side, things are completely different in terms of safety. All models come with a lot of things on the list of standard features. You get features like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera. Additionally, you can get blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
2022 Honda CR-V Engines
The 2022 Honda CR-V will continue with two familiar engine options in the offer. Base models will feature a 1.5-liter turbo-four engine with a max output of 190 horsepower. It comes in pair with a CVT gearbox and the overall performance is quite good. Still, the best thing about this powertrain is fuel economy. It goes around 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. Those are some of the best ratings in the class.
If you prefer hybrid powertrains, such a version of CR-V is also available. It uses the same system as the Honda Accord, which means a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a couple of electric motors, for a total output of 212 horsepower. The fuel economy goes around 40 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, which is pretty good. Still, models like RAV4 Hybrid offer even better fuel economy.
2022 Honda CR-V Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2022 Honda CR-V sometime in the last quarter of the year, with the starting price of around 26.500 dollars.
