The 2020 Range Rover Sport HST is the special edition and the package that includes the P400 drivetrain as its highlight. The engine is a hybrid and its name shows you how many ponies it is going to deliver. The premium carmaker is combining accessories with this mill that no other version can offer.
The rest of the lineup is: SE as the entry-level model, HSE, HSE Dynamic, Autobiography Dynamic, and the SVR as the most powerful SUV with 575 hp and price tag over $115k. But well, this model is for enthusiasts with a deep pocket.
JLR is the carmaker with one of the widest lineup. Besides the standard and premium segment, the Jaguar-Land Rover is also building their vehicles with diesel and hybrid units. One of them is the 2020 Range Rover Sport HST which will lead the mid-size SUV class with its style, fuel economy, power, comfort, safety… The price might look hefty, but you will hardly find other models that will match the offer by the JLR and its Range Rover Sport HST.
Technical Specifications
Land Rover is using both petrol and diesel engines. For the 2020 Range Rover Sport HST that is a hybrid system based on a V6 powertrain. A 3.0-liter unit produces 355 horsepower for the SE and HSE editions. The P400 configuration adds an electric engine to help it deliver more energy. The total output of the hybrid setup is 395 hp. The system also adds 405 lb-ft of torque.
Converted to the real-world drive, that is good for 21 mpg of combined driving. On the highway, the HST model is going to achieve up to 25 mpg. Top speed is limited at 140 mph (a conventional V6 – 130 mph), and the P400 needs 5.5 seconds for 0-60 mph acceleration. For the standard SE and HSE, V6 stops the clock at 6 seconds.
Other configurations available for the Range Rover Sport are V6 diesel with 255 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque, a V6 petrol unit with 355 hp, and two setups for V8 drivetrain. A 5.0-liter displacement can produce either 520 or 575 horsepower. Another hybrid in the lineup is PHEV based on a 2.0-liter petrol unit. With a larger electric motor, this SUV comes with 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. It is the upgrade for 2020 season and all other specs are to going to be announced later.
Exterior Upgrades
The HST package includes numerous upgrades for the standard SE package. Highlights of this model are panoramic sunroof painted in black and 21-inch wheels. JLR designers are using Style 9001 for these. Signature daylight-running lights come with LED lamps. Next, the 2020 Range Rover Sport HST is offering rain-sensing wipers and heated rear window. Other standard features are Left to Right Easy Config Headlights, front and rear fog lights, and headlight power wash. Land Rover also includes “Follow Me Home” lighting system.
2020 Range Rover Sport HST Interior
The interior of the 2020 Range Rover Sport HST is offering a few features you won’t find elsewhere in the lineup. First of all, the cabin is getting a unique Winsdor leather for seats. ToutPro Duo system is standard, as well as the Meridian sound system. You are getting a total of 19 speakers. Enough for a powerful surround sound.
On the other side, the HST carries over the features from the lower trim levels. These are aluminum trim finishers, electric windows with the anti-trap system, and a lockable glovebox. Interior offers five seating spots. Autobiography Dynamic trim level comes with a 7-seat layout. Optionally, there are rear-seat infotainment available for $2,000 or the premium interior package with a cargo net and rubber mats for $700.
Safety
Besides the interior and exterior features, the HST package offers plenty of safety features. Standard options are ABS and emergency braking. Land Rover also installs a perimetric alarm, passenger-seat detecting airbags, child locks, and the LATCH system for rear seats. Plus, the HST package also comes with Drive Package. Here, we find traffic sign recognition and a blind-spot monitor. Parking suite includes a 360-degree camera, rear traffic sensors, and clear exit monitor.
2020 Range Rover Sport HST Price
The base price of the new 2020 Range Rover Sport HST is $83,000. The standard edition starts at $70k. Top of the range versions are using V8 engine and the SVR package skyrockets the price to $115,000. HST package is available only with a V6 hybrid engine. However, it offers additional packages. Fully loaded SUV (premium color, carbon-fiber pack, heated seats, rear-row infotainment system…) increases the cost to a six-digit number.
Range Rover Sport HST is not the only hybrid model in the mid-size luxury SUV segment. However, not too many of others can match the luxury and the price you get from the JLR. The true competition comes from Germany. Mercedes introduced the high-end AMG version of GLE with a hybrid drivetrain and BMW is doing the same with its X5 M.
