Opel’s crossover and SUV lineup are growing. The German carmaker is already distributing three models across the world, and its mid-size vehicle now comes with more options. The 2019 Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 is an all-new model with PHEV configuration. In the era where everything is going towards the electrification, Opel and Vauxhall made a logical step. Now, with an electric SUV, this model will become one of the most interesting vehicles on the market.
We still don’t know which markets will offer this attractive model. We know the new 2019 Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 will take the position as the flagship model. Also, the German company unveiled the specs sheet. We can see similarities with the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4. Opel and the French company have a strong relationship, so this is not a surprise. Whatsoever, two models won’t compete with each other on the same markets. The SUV is based on the same PSA group platform as the conventional petrol vehicle.
2019 Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 Specs
There are only few available details about the upcoming 2019 Opel Grandland X Hybrid4. The SUV will use the plug-in technology, which is much better than the regular hybrid system. The PHEV model will be able to move around by using only an electric source of power. In this case, the Grandland X will have a range of 30 miles (48 km). The PHEV Hybrid4 system combines a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine capable to produce 200 hp with electric batteries that will add another 110 horsepower. That is possible with a 13.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Combined, the total output is 224 kW or 300 horsepower.
Standard configuration is sending power to front wheels. One of the electric motors is mated to transmission, while the other one is on the rear axle. So, the new 2019 Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 is using an all-wheel drive system with superb traction and increased balance. An eight-speed automatic gearbox is a power router. If you charge batteries of the new PHEV model at home, it will take around 150 minutes. Some of the models will get a regenerative braking system which could increase the range by 10 percent.
2019 Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 vs Peugeot 3008 GT PHEV
The 2019 Grandland X Hybrid4 is still a fresh model. Six months ago Peugeot introduced its new 3008 SUV and its special version. The PHEV hybrid system is the same one we can see on Opel’s model. Same batteries are used for Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4. This SUV is accelerating to 100 kmh (60 mph) in 6.5 seconds. However, each company is developing its own chassis and interior design. Under the hood, these two hybrids will be the same.
2019 Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 Release Date and Price
Although the company didn’t announce the release date, the 2019 Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 will arrive soon. Marketed as a 2019MY, it has seven months to appear this year. Its close sibling, Peugeot 3008 GT with the same setup, could appear any time. The French company said it will be ready for the summer. This is part of the changes that will bring the next year’s Grandland X model. However, Opel is now focused on the next Mokka X crossover.
The Grandland X costs around 25,000 euros in Europe, or 22,000 pounds in Britain. The new 2019 Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 will bring an updated price tag. Again, the company is silent about the cost of its upcoming SUV. Well, Peugeot is beefing up the top of the range GT model, so we can’t compare it to Opel’s sibling. If we have to guess, the new version of the SUV will cost probably around 3,000 more than the standard setup.
Competition
When the 2019 Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 appears, it is not going to be Peugeot’s rival. Two companies will probably avoid any competition in the same markets. Well, with the growing threat by other carmakers, Peugeot and Opel could do that to sell more units in some parts of the world. However, both SUVs will face the competition in Toyota Rav4 Hybrid and the all-new Honda CR-V. Opel is not going overseas to the US. Some amount of vehicles will be delivered to Australia.
Design
The 2019 Grandland X Hybrid4 will use the same platform as the standard model. But, it is still unknown which trim levels the new version is going to use. Currently, the most popular version is the Ultimate. Opel could choose to offer the PHEV system for the lower level trims, unlike the French partner. Peugeot 3008 Hybrid is available with GT trim only. That will make this new car very expensive. The Grandland PHEV could be more affordable to reach different kinds of buyers in the same markets.
