Despite being around since 2014, the Highlander is still one of the leaders in the class of mid-size crossovers. Characterized by a spacious, comfortable and quiet cabin, it also comes with an amazingly long list of standard features. Finally, there is a powerful optional V6 engine. Therefore, it’s not strange that the upcoming model will feature no bigger changes. It will continue in the same way, featuring same styling and almost identical lists of standard equipment. Novelties are minimal, mostly in terms of minor styling tweaks. All models get new black rocker panels. The SE trim comes with a few blacked details, while hi-grade Limited and Platinum models come with more chrome accents. Rest of the crossover is coming without changes, so it’s no wonder that the 2019 Toyota Highlander is coming so late in the year.
2019 Toyota Highlander Redesign
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2019 Toyota Highlander continues to ride on, these days, older K Platform. It seems a like a pretty common mid-size crossover in terms of dimensions. A wheelbase goes around 110 inches while the overall length is around 190. Such dimensions provide a lot of space on the inside, along with plenty of practicality. On the other side, styling is definitely a dividing point.
Someone like it, someone not. Still, most drivers find it okay. After all, the whole segment is characterized by a conservative approach, so you definitely won’t find anything too pretty or too ugly among rivals as well. As we already mentioned, the biggest novelty for 2019 Toyota Highlander is new side rocker panels, which are completely black. The SE model gets more black details, while Platinum and Limited models come with more chrome. More precisely, fog lights have been trimmed with chrome. Besides these minor tweaks, there are also a few more color options in the offer.
2019 Toyota Highlander Interior
The cabin is definitely one of the strongest points of this crossovers. Lots of space in a combination with excellent quality and a long list of standard features is are some of the main reasons why this model is so popular. The 2019 Toyota Highlander will continue in the same way. In terms of space, the first two rows are very generous. On the other side, the third row is cramped, just like in other rivals, and definitely can’t accommodate taller passengers. The overall cabin quality is amazing, especially if you go for higher trims, in which you will get hi-quality leather and lots of soft-touch materials.
Cargo capacity is not the best in class, but definitely decent enough, There are 13.8 cubic feet behind the third row, but once it folds down, you can enjoy 42.3 cubic feet. Total capacity goes around 84 cubic feet, which is among the best results in class.
2019 Toyota Highlander Trim Levels
There are no bigger changes in terms of trim level organization and lists of standard equipment for each. It comes with six trim levels in the offer – LE, LE Plus, XLE, SE, Limited and Platinum.
The base LE comes with things like 18-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, 6.1-inch touchscreen, five USB ports, six-speaker audio system etc. It is important that even this, the most basic model comes with the famous Safety Sense suite. Even base models come with things like forwarding collision detection with automatic emergency braking, lane departure intervention, adaptive cruise control, automatic cruise control.
The LE Plus upgrades the base models with a bigger 8-inch touchscreen, HD radio, tri-zone climate control, power liftgate, leather-wrapped steering wheel etc.
The XLE includes all above and adds things like roof rails, sunroof, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert systems and keyless entry. Once you step in, you will find leather upholstery, power-adjustable and heated front seats, a navigation system, 110-Volt power outlet etc.
If you want to add a bit of sporty flavor, the SE would be the right choice for you. In terms of standard equipment, this model isn’t much different than the XLE. On the other side, it comes with bigger wheels, suspension tuning, LED lighting and few more sporty details.
With the Limited trim, you can count on a premium audio system, ventilated seats, second-row captain’s chairs, driver memory settings and much more.
Finally, there is the Platinum model. This one gets heated second-row seats, panoramic sunroof, automatic wipers, a 360-degree parking camera, front parking sensors and much more.
2019 Toyota Highlander Engines
Two engines will be available in the 2019 Toyota Highlander, just like before. If you don’t care too much about performances, versions with a four-cylinder engine are more affordable. A familiar 2.5-liter unit delivers around 185 horsepower. On the other side, an optional 3.5-liter V6 is a much better deal. With 395 horsepower, you can count not only on excellent driving performances but on better fuel economy as well.
2019 Toyota Highlander Release Date and Price
The 2019 Toyota Highlander’s arrival is a matter of days. We don’t expect bigger changes in price, so base models should go around 31.000 dollars.
