The X3 is a new model. With recent changes on the premium crossover, there won’t be updated in the foreseeable future. So, the 2021 BMW X3 is coming mostly unchanged. Well, we must mention the all-new iX3 based on the standard crossover.
The company upgraded the performance of the M40i package and now you can get more power if you choose this version. Besides that one, the crossover offers base and high-end M model. Finally, we can announce that all-electric iX3 is coming to the USA as 2021 YM. Read more details about all these versions in our review.
Pros and Cons
The 2021 BMW X3 will still be one of the most capable premium compact models in the market. With the exceptional engine and a lot of accessories and space inside the cabin, the German small SUV stands out from the competition. Even the base engine can meet the demands of buyers, even in the luxury segment. Safety features are exceptional. Fans are praising automatic braking and a blind-spot monitor. The interior is comfortable and spacious. And finally, the X3 offers more with its upper trim levels. The M model is the performance-oriented version. What’s more, the lineup now offers an electric drivetrain.
The biggest downside of the 2021 BMW X3 is its price. Well, we expect that from a premium crossover, but the Bavarian carmaker slaps $42,000 sticker to its product. High-end versions are becoming more expensive pretty quickly. The price escalates to $77,000. Even the Apple CarPlay is an optional upgrade, so we can question equipment for the base model.
Interesting, the base configuration for the 2021 BMW X3 will include a rear-wheel drive. However, the famous xDrive AWD is the recommended upgrade. Still, a 2.0-liter is a base engine and it is capable of producing 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The premium model is returning 27 mpg combined, which is a respectable mileage for such a vehicle.
The X3 M40i model boosts the offer with a 3.0-liter V6 engine. The drivetrain is turbocharged again and it creates 385 hp and 380 pound-feet of torque. However, the RWD is not available with this powerplant and the xDrive is standard. Converted to 0-60 mph sprint, that is 4.5 seconds.
The top of the line model is the 2021 BMW X3M. The same V6 engine is getting a huge boost and steps up with 475 hp. Add the Competition package and you are getting 505 ponies. Again, an AWD is standard, but the high outputs are bringing the high fuel consumption (16 mpg combined). With the price of over $70k and such fuel economy, you can think of a full-size luxury SUV.
2021 BMW iX3 Details and Range
The new all-electric SUV is coming to Europe first. BMW is preparing the launch of its fresh model for 2020, while the overseas fans will see it as the 2021 BMW iX3. There won’t be big modifications and you can expect the range of 200 miles from the base version. Also, the electric crossover will be able to reach 120 mph, while it takes 5 seconds for 0-60.
The battery of the 2021 BMW iX3 has a capacity of 75-kW. The full recharge takes slightly more than 8 hours. For a 10-80 percent fast charge, you will need only 25 mins. You won’t want to plug the electric vehicle to your home outlets.
Models and Accessories
We already mentioned models when we were speaking of engines. The 2021 BMW X3 is the base version, while the M40i updates the interior with the latest features. Well, you can expect a lot from the crossover that costs $56,000. Leather seats are standard, as well as the 10-way power seats for the driver. Automatic braking is one of the best in the market and the reason why BMW is after the autonomous drive Level 4 system. However, the heads-up display is still optional.
You can upgrade your ride with a power moonroof. As said, Apple CarPlay is optional, as well as the heated steering wheel. The German carmaker does not offer Android Auto at all. Upgrades for the highest grades of the X3 crossover are Harman Kardon audio system, Driver Assistance Plus package, or wireless charger.
2021 BMW X3 Release Date and Price
We will have to wait a bit before the X3 for the 2021 season comes out. The German carmaker won’t rush. Definitely, the premier is going to happen when BMW decides to bring the iX3 to the USA.
The initial price of the 2021 BMW X3 remains at $42,000. For an AWD you will have to add two grand. As said, the M40i costs $56,000 (xDrive included), while the most expensive builds are X3M. Standard edition is just under $70,000 and the Competition package adds $7,000. The all-electric version costs 70,000 euros, which is approximately the same value of the X3M Competition.
