2023 BMW X6 Facelift: Changes, Features, Release Date

2023 BMW X6

The X6 was pretty much the first real coupe SUV that ever hit the road and many criticized its not-particularly practical design for a long time. Moreover, it’s been criticized even today but the X6 still enjoys great popularity. It is one of the most desirable mid-size crossovers on the market, so it’s no wonder that the Bavarian carmaker is working on a mid-cycle refresh, to keep it fresh and competitive. The 2023 BMW X6 is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh and we have big expectations from it.

This should be a quite comprehensive update. We presume that the new model will come with the same changes as the X5, which is the X6’s closest relative. So, we don’t just expect visual updates, but also big upgrades under the hood, as well as a lot of interior updates. All these things should keep the current generation competitive in the market that’s getting more crowded every year.

As we’ve just mentioned, this will be a mid-cycle update. So, the focus will be on aesthetics. The 2023 BMW X6 is about to receive a facelift, which will bring a lot of interesting styling changes. Of course, most of them will come to the front end, where we expect to see new headlights, a bigger grille, more aggressive bumper, all designed in the same or very similar fashion as the recently updated X5. A few more changes are expected on the rear end, while we also count on novelties like new color options, new wheels etc.

On the other hand, the mechanical aspect won’t change much. We count on the same or very similar suspension and chassis setup, which provides a high level of athleticism and a pretty smooth ride at the same time. The X6 is great in corners but also pretty good on long journeys.

Interior

This update will also bring some important interior updates. This particularly refers to the dashboard, which will get a new design. The highlights of the new design will be massive infotainment and instrument cluster screens, which will be integrated and designed in the same way as those in the all-electric iX model. The center stack will also come with some revisions, while we also expect to see new materials, new color schemes and similar kinds of updates.

On the other hand, the overall cabin layout won’t change, so you may count on familiar passenger and cargo space. The X6 comes with two rows of seats and the front row is very spacious and comfortable. The second row is very generous with legroom, but taller passengers may have trouble with headroom a little bit, due to the sloping roof design. For the same reason, the cargo area offers 27.4 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 59.6 cubic feet in total.

Features

Novelties in this aspect will certainly come, starting from the new screens. However, we can’t say we expect some significant upgrades, considering that the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect. It comes standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, push-button start, proximity keyless entry, panoramic moonroof, navigation, five USB ports, satellite radio, HD Radio, a 10-speaker sound system, Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. The list of options is also pretty generous and we presume some of those could become standard in the next year. Some of the highlights are premium 16- and 20-speaker audio systems, quad-zone automatic climate control and remote start.

The same is with safety features. For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like forwar automatic emergency braking, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic high beams, front and rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring etc.

2023 BMW X6 Engines

Big changes are also coming under the hood. First of all, the base inline-six will get a significant power upgrade. Instead of 335, the 3.0-liter engine will now feature 375 horsepower, which should provide notably better performance. The second big change comes with the M60i, which replaces the M50i model. The familiar 4.4-liter V8 gets a mild-hybrid system but, interestingly, it continues with the same engine power, which goes around 523 horses.

Finally, the X6 M might get some power increase as well. The current version is good for about 600 horsepower but some sources suggest that the output could go up to 630 hp. The officials are still quiet about the high-performance version.

All engines will continue with 8-speed automatic transmission.
