Since 2016, the Tesla Model X has been a reference in the world of electric cars. We don’t believe that this will change in the next year, especially if we consider rumors that suggest further upgrades of this capable SUV. At this point, it is still unofficial but it looks like the 2022 Tesla Model X could come with another, even more, powerful version than the Plaid. Other than that, we don’t expect to see significant changes and the next year’s model should continue with familiar design characteristics.
You may count on an expensive but extremely capable crossover, which is fast and furious, and which also offers a practical cabin, full of high-tech features. On the other hand, there are also few issues, such as a tight third row and subpar interior quality.
As there are no significant changes to come for the next year, we presume that the 2022 Tesla Model X will hit the market sometime late in the year.
2022 Tesla Model X Design
When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2022 Tesla Model X won’t change. The current generation has been around since 2016 and it still looks fresh in every aspect. This particularly refers to the mechanical aspect of the car, which is characterized by a lot of advanced technologies and design solutions. One of the things we particularly like is the suspension setup, which is well composed. This crossover handles pretty well but at the same time, it absorbs road harshness pretty well. More powerful variants also feature torque vectoring, for even better traction and performance.
When it comes to styling, the next year won’t bring changes. This model looks like any other Tesla from the front, while there are also few exclusive details, such as gull wings and similar things.
The inside of this SUV is a mixed bag. What we like is the spacious cabin, which comes with three rows of seats and a decent cargo area. The first two rows are very generous with space and accommodate adults with ease. On the other hand the third row is tight but we can’t take that as a drawback, considering that this is a typical issue in the segment. The cargo area offers pretty good numbers. You may count on about 88 cubic feet of the total cargo space.
On the other side, the biggest drawback is interior quality, the thing that troubles all Tesla models. You can find low-rent materials here and there but the poor assembling and overall build quality are the actual issues. In this aspect, Tesla Model X doesn’t justify its price tag.
There’s always room for additions regarding the standard and available features but we don’t expect that the 2022 Tesla Model X could change too much in this aspect. The list of standard equipment should remain pretty much the same as in the current model, which comes with goodies like a 17-inch touch screen, a navigation system, a digital gauge cluster, Bluetooth, two USB ports, satellite radio, HD Radio, a 17-speaker stereo, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a smartphone charging pad, and keyless entry. The list of standard equipment also includes a bunch of safety features. Some of the highlights are blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, a surround-view parking camera system, parking sensors, forward and side collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beam headlights.
Additionally, you can get goodies like automated lane changing, automated parking etc.
2022 Tesla Model X Performance
At this point, we know for sure that the 2022 Tesla Model X will continue with two familiar variants under the hood. Standard models, which are called Long Range, will continue with the dual-motor setup, with a total output of 670 horsepower. The estimated max range goes around 360 miles.
Also, there is the Plaid model, earlier known as the Performance model. This model comes with a tri-motor setup and a total output of 1.020 horsepower. With such power, it needs less than 2 seconds to hit 60 mpg. The max range is around 340 miles.
Rumors also suggest the Plaid+ model, which would feature even more power and even quicker acceleration. At this point, the officials are still quiet about this model.
2022 Tesla Model X Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2022 Tesla Model X will arrive sometime late in the year, with a starting price of around 90.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like the Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace etc.
