It looks like this crossover is getting close to the end of its journey. Introduced about a decade ago, this model is currently among the oldest in the class. Therefore, we’ve been hearing a lot of stories about the 2019 Dodge Journey redesign in past few years. Still, things are going in a different way. As you may know, FCA is working on a completely new crossover, which will most likely come under Chrysler’s badge, while this one is about to be discontinued. The new model will most likely come in about a year or two, which means it is a big chance that the 2019 Dodge Journey is actually going to be the last year model in production. Therefore, no one expects to see bigger changes. The new models will come in the next few weeks and should continue with familiar design characteristics.
2019 Dodge Journey Design
The Journey is present on the market since 2009. With a decade-old design, there is no doubt that this crossover is outdated in many ways. This crossover is based on the Chrysler JC platform, which is actually Mitsubishi’s old architecture that has been out of use for new models for years. Considering this fact, it’s not hard to realize that driving characteristics are way below class-average ratings. The 2019 Dodge Journey will continue in the same way, which means that all other models in the class will be lighter and more athletic.
Besides obvious mechanical drawback, we can also agree that the visual characteristics of this crossover are not representative at all. Despite being around for years, it has never received any more important visual upgrade. Practically, the last notable aesthetical update was seven years ago, which is one of the main reason’s why people don’t even consider this model when buying a new SUV.
2019 Dodge Journey Interior
Unlike the exterior, the inside of 2019 Dodge Journey still looks pretty good. Of course, there are some design elements that look outdated, but the overall quality is quite good. This refers to both dashboards and to the rest of the cabin. Seats are very comfortable and supportive. This crossover can accommodate seven passengers. First two rows are spacious, while the third one definitely can’t accommodate adult passengers. On the other side, most competitors offer more cargo space. You can count on just 11 cubic feet behind the third row, while the overall capacity goes around 67 cubic feet. In terms of tech features, the 2019 Dodge Journey definitely shows its age, especially when it comes to the latest gadgetry.
Trim Levels
The trim level organization will definitely remain the same. There are four trim levels in the offer – SE, SXT, Crossroad, and GT.
The base SE is a real bare bone. The list of standard equipment isn’t long at all. Steel wheels, dual-zone climate control, 6-speaker audio system, and height-adjustable driver’s seat are pretty much everything you’ll get with the base model.
The SXT isn’t spectacular either. The only important thing you’ll get is alloy wheels. Still, there are packages that can get you things like an 8.4-inch touchscreen, tri-zone climate control, power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel etc.
The 2019 Dodge Journey specs for the Crossroad trim are finally on par with other competitors in the class. You will finally get Bluetooth, 19-inch wheels, heated seats, upgraded audio system etc.
The GT is at the top of the offer, with unique wheels, keyless entry, leather seats, heated steering wheels, and few more things.
2019 Dodge Journey Engines
Two familiar engines will be in the offer for the 2019 Dodge Journey. Base models will feature a familiar 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with around 175 horse and 163 pound-feet of torque. You will definitely want to avoid this engine if you need at least decent performances. The amount of power may sound okay, but archaic four-speed automatic gearbox is definitely something that doesn’t belong to the year we are living in.
On the other side, a 3.6-liter V6 is much better. It delivers 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, which is more than enough for solid performances. Also, it comes with a much better 6-speed automatic transmission. Besides enough power, it also offers quite a decent fuel economy, which goes around 17 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway. A smaller four-cylinder engine is slightly better in urban conditions, where it returns around 19 miles per gallon. On the other side, things on the highway are same as for the V6 unit, which means around 25 mpg.
2019 Dodge Journey Release Date and Price
The 2019 Dodge Journey should come in the next few weeks. The price should remain the same. Base models will go around 22.000 dollars, which makes this crossover the most affordable model in the class. Is this enough reason to buy an outdated SUV? Probably not.
