The current generation of this mid-size SUV has been around for nearly a decade and we are pretty sure that the recent update won’t keep it in production for too long. In other words, we count on a soon redesign and if we can trust the latest reports, this will happen already for the 2023 Dodge Durango. The company is still quiet about this, so make sure to take the following paragraphs with a reserve.

If we can trust rumors, this will be more than just a redesign. The new Durango will completely change its character. More precisely, it will get back to its roots and once again be a genuine SUV, with a BoF layout. Also, it could easily grow in size and become a full-size vehicle. Besides the new platform, we count on changes in all other aspects, including the new styling, new interior design, engine options etc.

The first and most important thing that comes to mind with the 2023 Dodge Durango is the platform. If you’re familiar with the history of this nameplate, you know that previous generations were classic body-on-frame SUVs. However, things changed with the introduction of the current model, which practically became a crossover. It adopted a unibody platform and now shares most parts with the, now, previous-generation Grand Cherokee.

The new generation will bring a new platform and if we can trust the latest reports, the Durango will once again be a genuine SUV. It looks like it will ride on the same platform as the Ram 1500. In other words, it should have a lot of things in common with Jeep Wagoneer, which came back recently. Such a design will completely change the character of Durango, which should become more rugged, more capable and bolder.

Exterior Design

When it comes to the exterior design, one of the first things we can talk about is the size. Many rumors suggest that the 2023 Dodge Durango will get bigger. In other words, it could become a full-size SUV. That would put it in the competition with models like Ford Expedition, Chevy Tahoe, Toyota Sequoia etc. Currently, Stellantis doesn’t have such a vehicle in its portfolio.

Of course, we expect to see a typical SUV body, characterized by a boxy overall shape and lots of bold design solutions. When it comes to the front face, we presume it will adopt Ram’s latest design language, which means a similar approach as in the case of Ram 1500.

We expect a quite sophisticated suspension setup, which would include an independent rear suspension. Still, we also expect to see an off-road version of the SUV, which would come with hardware upgrades like suspension, locking differentials and similar features.

Interior

These vehicles are mostly about interior space and overall practicality. So, the 2023 Dodge Durango shouldn’t be an exception. We count on lots of interior room, including three rows of seats that can accommodate up to eight passengers. The cargo area should offer some respectable numbers too.

We presume that Dodge would tend to keep this model competitively priced. So, the interior won’t look as upscale as in the case of the new Wagoneer. Still, we don’t expect low-rent materials either. The new Durango should find a nice balance in terms of quality, while another aspect that comes to mind is the list of standard and available equipment. Of course, we count on all kinds of advanced tech goodies, including the Ram’s massive 12-inch vertically-oriented infotainment screen. Furthermore, we count on all kinds of advanced driver aids, including some form of autonomous driving.

2023 Dodge Durango Engines

When it comes to the engine lineup, this model shouldn’t bring any surprises. The most certain choice is a 5.7-liter V8, which puts out 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. It comes in pair with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission and also gets help from a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

There’s a chance that this won’t be the only transmission choice in the offer. We could also see a bigger and more powerful 6.4-liter V8, with a max output of around 470 horsepower. This engine would also come in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Diesel and V6 options are not expected, while the possibility for the Hellcat version is always there. The max towing capacity should go around 10.000 pounds.

2023 Dodge Durango Release Date and Price

If it’s about to be redesigned, the 2023 Dodge Durango will probably hit the market sometime in the second half of the next year. The base price should go around 50.000 dollars. Still, take this article with a big reserve, as the officials are still quiet.
