Grand Cherokee is the star in Jeep’s SUV lineup. It is the flagship model and the best-selling product. The FCA is clearing ups space for it, by sending the Dodge Durango to the ladder frame. Also, the company is expanding the offer by adding a three-row version. The new Grand Wagoneer will also be a 7-seat SUV, but nevermind. The stuff 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee bringing on the table is hard to match, not only for other models from the same carmaker. There are no too many SUVs ready to compete with Grand Cherokee.
Well, the mid-size segment is pretty crowded nowadays. The base versions are on par. But, with every new option, Jeep is making difference in favor of its Grand Cherokee. Well, the current generation is aging and we believe it is time for the next series. The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee should get a kind of electric drivetrain, probably PHEV model, which will be enough for the start of fifth generation. Whatsoever, we believe that Trackhawk model is more interesting with its 707 hp engine. Some aftermarket upgrades are making the SUV offer 1000+ ponies.
2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Changes
Spy photos of the new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee are already available. The company is not wasting time and tests are already in progress. However, first results are still a secret and the company will remain quiet until next year. Then, the first hints will be available. The FCA is well known for its easter eggs. For example, during the premiere of the new Ram 1500 they set the time on display at 7:07. That is the amount of horsepower the Hemi engine is delivering. The same engine should arrive for the Ram TRX Rebel off-road truck. So, we must pay a lot of attention to all premieres by the FCA to catch such hints.
2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Engines
The new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee will keep both V6 as the base, and V8 as optional engines. A 3.6-liter V6 is a popular Pentastar drivetrain capable to produce 295 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It is the most fuel-friendly mill, since it consumes less petrol than any V8. On the other hand, a 5.7-liter unit upgrades outputs to 260 hp and 390 lb-ft. With such configuration, the 2021 Grand Cherokee will be able to sprint to 60 mph faster and pull more cargo. Still, it can’t match 8,500 pounds of towing capacity by 6.4-liter unit. It also brings 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of twist. On the other hand, the cost is a poor fuel economy. This engine returns 15 mpg combined.
The best fuel economy comes from the diesel unit. The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee will use the same turbodiesel drivetrain as the Ram 1500. This will make the SUV produce 240 hp and 420 lb-ft, but the towing capacity will jump over 8,000 lbs. With 26 mpg combined, it is also the most economical engine in the lineup.
Trackhawk Model with 707 hp
Supercharged 6.2-liter engine is making the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk the most powerful SUV on the market. There are some aftermarket products that top this output. But, the same tuning can make the Grand Cherokee go over 1000 horsepower. However, the company is tuning a V8 Hemi engine to deliver 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. We believe FCA is going to keep these numbers for 2021 season and the new Grand Cherokee.
Three-Row Version Comes Next Season
For a long time Grand Cherokee was only a five-seat SUV. It was big enough to get a third row, but the company is adding it for 2020 season. If the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee hits the next generation, it will definitely keep both configurations. Now, with Dodge Durango becoming the SUV based on the body on frame platform, the Grand Cherokee will get more buyers. Also, we still don’t know too much about Grand Wagoneer’s comeback, but it seems like this is going to be a three-row SUV as well.
Both Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango belonged to the mid-size class. Now, Durango will sit on a new architecture, the same as Ram 1500 truck. It makes this model a whole different SUV, moving to new customers, leaving some of the existing market to the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Everyone expect sales jump, especially with so many options in the offer.
2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Prices
The base 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a V6 engine will keep the price at the current level, despite the number of changes and the new generation. The cost of $33,200 is already above the most rivals, and Jeep can’t push it further to stay competitive. On the other hand, additional options will easily boost the price over $40,000. Trailhawk is one of the best values at $45,000. If you are willing to spend more on the performance-oriented SUVs, then prepare at least $70,000 for the SRT edition with 6.4 engine, or more than $85,000 for the Trackhawk.
Fix the flaw with the fender flares. My 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit just turned one year old this week and the fender flares are coming unglued!! Evidently, this has been a problem since 2014-2015 with the use of double-sided tape to attach them. I have an appointment for next Monday to have the problem checked out. They said they would have to take pictures and send to Chrysler, would need my jeep a few days!
That’s just crazy!
