If we can rely on latest reports that circulate through the network, it looks like the 2019 Honda Crosstour Is Coming Back. Introduced in 2009, this crossover/station wagon was in productions for about 5/6 years. The initial model, known as the Accord Crosstour was launched in 2009 and it was designed to compete with the currently undisputed leader in the segment, Subaru Outback. After the facelift in 2012, the “Accord” prefix was removed, but it didn’t help too much. Customers already used to the super-practical Outback, so sales were pretty slow at that time.
The model was finally discontinued three years ago. However, it looks like the company is willing to take another try, this time with a model that will fix all the weak points from the previous generations. Still, keep in mind that there haven’t been an official confirmation, nor denial, so far.
2019 Honda Crosstour Redesign
After a three-year break, it looks like the 2019 Honda Crosstour is coming back. So far, all details about the new models are just speculations, so you should take all the info with a dose of a reserve. If the new generation of this practical crossover arrives, there is no doubt it will share a lot of things with the famous Accord sedan, just like it was the case with the original model. The legendary sedan has been redesigned recently and all the new design solutions should be applied on the new crossover as well.
The basics of the 2019 Honda Crosstour shouldn’t go too far from the original model. Once again, we will see a vehicle that takes the best from two worlds, crossovers and station wagons. Expect to see a common wagon body style, in combination with a high ground clearance, characteristical for crossovers.
2019 Honda Crosstour Styling
Just like it will be the case with mechanics, the 2019 Honda Crosstour will have lots of things in common with the Accord in terms of styling. The famous sedan came completely new recently and features Honda’s latest design language. The upcoming crossover will probably feature identical front end, with same headlights, grille design etc. The two models should be identical pretty much all-away to the B-pillar. Rest of the vehicle should be finished in a classic station wagon layout. Compared to the Accord, we will see a much higher ground clearance. Moreover, we will see styling elements that will clearly indicate that this model can do something off the road as well. Of course, we are talking about black-plastic surfaces in areas like fenders, underbody protection etc.
2019 Honda Crosstour Interior Design
Once again, expect lots of inspiration from the famous sedan. Most likely, the two models will feature the same dashboard design. This means a real upscale interior quality, which will definitely be a strong point of the new model when competing with the Subaru Outback and similar models. Besides excellent quality, the 2019 Honda Crosstour will come with a full load of features as well. In practice, this means that even base models should feature things like a 7-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, smartphone integration, Siri Eyes Free and other tech features. On the other side, higher trims would add things like a bigger touchscreen, sunroof, premium audio system and much more.
2019 Honda Crosstour Engine
We expect to see three powertrain choices for the 2019 Honda Crosstour. Base models will most likely feature a new, super-efficient 1.5-liter turbo inline-four, which is good for about 192 horsepower.
A bigger, also recently-introduced, 2.0-liter unit should be in the offer as well. This one delivers 252 horsepower and definitely is on par with much bigger V6 engines.
Finally, the new crossover should come in a hybrid version as well. It will feature the same system that powers Accord Hybrid, which consists of a gasoline engine and two electric motors. A max output goes around 212 horsepower, but the strongest point of this system is spectacular fuel economy. In the Accord, it goes close to 50 miles per gallon. In this case, expect slightly lower numbers. When it comes to transmission, expect to see a new 10-speed automatic gearbox.
2019 Honda Crosstour Safety
Another 2019 Honda Crosstour’s strong point will be safety. Expect to see a lot of advanced systems in the offer. Expect to see things like forwarding collision warning, collision mitigation braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, rearview camera and traffic sign recognition already in base models. Higher trims will add systems like rear cross traffic alert, parking sensors, head-up display, blind spot monitoring etc.
2019 Honda Crosstour Release Date and Price
The 2019 Honda Crosstour still waits for the official confirmation. However, many reports suggest its arrival already in the next year. If it arrives, a starting price will probably go around 30.000 dollars. A hybrid version will cost a few thousands more. The biggest rival should be Subaru Outback.
