In the highly-competitive segment of mid-size luxury crossover, this model stands out with a spacious cabin, lots of standard equipment and elegant styling. The current, second-generation model came four years ago and there is still no sign of bigger updates. The 2019 Volvo XC90 continues in the same way, featuring minor tweaks in terms of standard equipment.
Rest of the design characteristics remains pretty much the same. Expect the same thing with powertrain, where you can count on a wide choice of different types of engines in the offer. You can go for either gasoline, diesel or hybrid powertrain. The new year model is already available on some markets and should arrive at the rest of destinations pretty soon.
2019 Volvo XC90 Changes
As we already mentioned, 2019 Volvo XC90 changes are minimal. It is pretty much all about more standard features, so base AWD models now features things like heated seats and four-zone climate control. Also, some versions get the new audio system, while new optional packages called Advanced and Multimedia are available in higher trims.
2019 Volvo XC90 Design and Specs
In terms of specs and overall design characteristics, the 2019 Volvo XC90 definitely remains the same. This model is present on the market since 2015 and still waits for its first update. It still looks very attractive and the styling is definitely one of its strongest points. It rides on the company’s familiar SPA platform, which is used for most Volvo models, including both sedans and crossovers.
This crossover features 117.5 inches in wheelbase, which promises lots of space on the inside. Still, there is one pretty big drawback, characteristical for pretty much all models that ride on this architecture. Those who are familiar with the newest Volvo models already know that we are talking about the ride, which is a little bit stiffer compared to other models in class. Of course, you can compensate this by choosing versions with smaller rims, but this would affect overall visual appeal very much.
2019 Volvo XC90 Interior
As we already mentioned, this crossover is characterized by a pretty long wheelbase. Logically, it comes with three rows of seating and total capacity for seven passengers. The first and second rows are pretty generous in terms of space. In this aspect, the 2019 Volvo XC90 is definitely one of the class leaders. On the other side, the third row is a little bit tight and it seems comfortable only for smaller people. The materials quality is definitely XC90’s strong point. All surfaces are soft on touch and look pretty upscale. Another great thing about this crossover is a pretty impressive list of standard features.
2019 Volvo XC90 Trim Levels
The 2019 Volvo XC90 continues with same four trims in the offer – Momentum, R-Design, Inscription and Excellence. The base Momentum trim includes standard features like 18-inch wheels, panoramic roof, complete LED lighting, four-zone climate control, rearview camera, keyless entry and ignition, rear parking sensors etc. Also, you can count on tech features like 9-inch touchscreen, voice controls, smartphone integration, 10-speaker audio system and much more. Finally, there’s a full load of safety systems, with things like cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assists, an oncoming-traffic lane mitigation system and many more.
Looks pretty impressive for the base, but things get even better with higher trims. The next one is called R-Design. It adds standard features like paddle shifters, premium audio system, leather upholstery, as well as with lots of visual upgrades, including bigger 20-inch wheels.
The Inscription adds a couple of things, including ventilated seats, power side support, cushion extension etc. Finally, there is a top-grade Excellence trim. With this one, you can count on things like 21-inch wheels, an adaptive air suspension, 19-inch sound system etc. Still, the best thing about this trim is that the second row becomes a real limousine. There are captain’s chairs, touchscreen display, heated cup holders and plenty of other things.
2019 Volvo XC90 Engines
The engine lineup remains unchanged. Base models continue with the same 2.0-liter turbo inline-four, which is good for about 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The same engine is available in a variant with both turbo and supercharger. In this case, you can count on 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. A hybrid version comes with the same engine but gets help from an 87-hp electric motor. Total output goes around 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.
There are also two diesel engines in the offer. The base unit is a 2.0-liter turbodiesel with around 190 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. If you want something more powerful but still with great mpg ratings, there is the same engine in a version with twin turbochargers, which is good for about 225 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.
2019 Volvo XC90 Release Date and Price
The 2019 Volvo XC90 is already available in some parts of the world, including many U.S. countries. It should arrive at the rest of the markets pretty soon. Price remains pretty much unchanged and goes in a range between 48.000 and 105.000 dollars.
