2021 Volvo XC60 Redesign and Price

2021 Volvo XC60 changes

XC60 is one of the most powerful crossovers in the market. With 400 ponies, only Porsche Macan can cope with that. Actually, the PHEV model is a difference-maker. The current model was released in 2017 and it is time for an update. The 2021 Volvo XC60 is going to get a redesign. Cosmetic changes are not the only change you will see, but also drivetrain upgrades. After a subcompact XC40, its bigger sibling can also get an all-electric version.

The versatility is making the XC60 one of the most popular premium crossovers in the market. First, the Swedish carmaker is well-known for its luxury features. Three different drivetrains and three trim levels are offering enough options for building. With an all-electric model on the way, it will give another dimension to the existing lineup.

2021 Volvo XC60 Engines

All the configurations on the 2021 Volvo XC60 will be based on the same petrol engine. It is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit. Right from the start, engineers of the Swedish company tune it to deliver 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Turbocharged powerplant sends energy to front wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox. Optionally, the gearbox can route power to all corners.

The T6 configuration is combining turbo- and supercharger to squeeze more power from the same displacement. The same transmission is sending 315 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque to all wheels, while the FWD is not an option here. It will cost only 1 mile for the fuel economy in urban areas. The fuel consumption is 19/27 mpg.

2021 Volvo XC60 T8 and EV

Currently, T8 is top of the class model for the compact luxury crossover. A 2.0-liter petrol engine is paired with a plug-in hybrid system. The combo is producing 400 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. This number goes up with the Polestar update. If you purchase an additional package, you will gain an extra 15 ponies. The combined fuel economy reaches 27 mpg. The range of the PHEV model is 35 miles, which is again, one of the best outputs in the class.

The all-electric version is due for the 2021 season. The XC60 will probably carry the same battery as the XC40, which will arrive later this year. Volvo announced the smaller vehicle is going to make 250 miles in a single charge, but the 2021 Volvo XC60 is larger and heavier. On the other hand, it could get a larger battery. For the subcompact XC40, there is a 75 kWh unit.

Trim Levels and Features

The 2021 Volvo XC60 is going to be available in three different versions. Like most other vehicles within the company’s lineup, the offer starts with the Momentum package. Unique design makes every Volvo so special. Although compact, XC60 will offer you 18-inch wheels with the base trim. After the restyling, we will get a new look at the rims. Apple CarPlay is also standard, as well as the Android Auto. Panoramic moonroof boosts the overall impression.

The R-Design enhances the interior with the Nappa leather. Plus, it adds larger wheels and new tuning for sportier driving. An improved safety system provides peace of mind. The 2021 Volvo XC60 Inscription is building the offer with navigation, off-road tuning, and chrome tips. One more package is also part of the lineup – Polestar. More power and unique styling are making the Polestar Design version the most expensive model in the lineup.

2021 Volvo XC60 Redesign

The new look of the XC60 is coming next year. The mid-size update is going to bring a lot of novelties. However, the spy photos are not available yet to provide us any information about the compact crossover. The company could use the same language as for the latest XC40 update. On the other hand, Volvo is not going to introduce some novelties for the compact crossover. The large grille, luxurious materials, and advanced driving systems are something you cannot miss.

But, the carmaker will need all the weapons to defend against huge competition. First of all, there are German carmakers dominating the market – BMW X3, Audi Q5, Porsche Macan, and Mercedes GLA. Also, domestic companies will be involved in the race – Cadillac XT4 and Lincoln Corsair. Plus, Japanese manufacturers are also pretty interesting. Lexus brought the new NX, Acura is preparing the hybrid unit for the RDX, and Infiniti plans the blast for the 2021 season with QX30.

Release Date and Price

The new 2021 Volvo XC60 is going to arrive early next season. The XC40 will debut before its larger sibling. The redesign will affect the price, which will jump a bit. Still, it won’t exceed $42,000 for the base model. The most expensive trim is delivered by Polestar Engineering. This PHEV will cost over $70,000. We are waiting for updates about the EV to see if this one can beat that. It won’t be the only all-electric crossover since BMW is presenting the new iX3 and Audi Q5 comes with E-Tron technology.
