The future of the QX30 is questionable. The model was developed in cooperation between Infiniti and Mercedes-Benz. But, after only four years, the Japanese carmaker is discontinuing its smallest crossover. Well, they will end production of the vehicle we new, but the nameplate could come back with totally different concept. Instead of the conventional petrol drivetrain, the 2020 Infiniti QX30 will be all-electric vehicle that will compete with Jaguar I-Pace and upcoming Porsche EV crossovers.
Well, the company could save a petrol engine to have more models in the lineup. Still, the focus is on the electric version which will change the look of the compact luxury SUV. We still don’t know in which markets this small vehicle is going to appear, but as an EV it will be welcome everywhere. We can expect some serious numbers coming out the electric batteries, at first place a huge range. Still, the 2020 Infiniti QX30 will offer some lighter versions which will also cost less than these most powerful models in the lineup.
2020 Infiniti QX30 Specs
The QX30 was not available in the US. Buyers in other markets could buy it with either petrol or diesel unit. A 2.0-liter engine was a turbo-four mill with capability to produce 210 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission provided the smooth power distribution and excellent fuel economy. A 2.2-liter turbodiesel provided the same amount of torque as the gasoline version, but it fell short with power – 170 hp only. However, the towing capacity of this one was slightly better, as well as the fuel economy. The same seven-speed DCT was a power router for a diesel drivetrain.
QX30 Goes Electric
This is still an unconfirmed rumor. But, it will be strange to end the production of the compact luxury crossover after only four years. Sales were not so bad and the company needs a wider range of models to be competitive in the market. Especially small vehicles are on demand. So, we still believe that QX30 will go through a redesign phase and come back next season.
Besides that, rumors are mentioning the 2020 Infiniti QX30 electric SUV. We have many reasons to suspect in this story. First, we don’t know the source. Then, the company didn’t mention the return of this crossover or any kind of electric SUVs in their plans. Finally, there are no spy photos to give us any hints or hope.
But, on the other hand, there are some speculations that prove this possible. First, the future of the automotive industry is electric. The 2020 Infiniti QX30 with such technology will put this company in good position already now. Then, it is time for a refresh, and the company can’t leave a vacant space in this class. Compact crossovers are the best-selling models in the whole crossover/SUV world. Well, premium versions are taking a smaller share of the market, but still, Infiniti doesn’t produce base crossovers.
2020 Infiniti QX30 vs Audi Q3 vs BMW X1
Here are some examples of how things are working in the automotive world. Two big rivals of the 2020 Infiniti QX30 will come from Germany. These are Audi Q3 and BMW X1. These compact crossovers re offering the similar configurations – luxury interior, turbo engines, and a lot of option. However, both German companies announced plans of adding a hybrid and electric versions of their crossovers. The iPerformance and e-Tron systems are not going to develop drivetrains only for compact models, but also larger vehicles. The QX30 has to response, since it seems like the Japanese premium model is having problems to catch up with the competition.
Monograph Concept
The Monograph Concept is the future platform of all Infiniti SUVs. The QX30 could be the first one to use it in production. We could hear rumors about the full-size QX80 using it, and this is the first time someone is mentioning it as the concept for a small model. Well, the help is always welcome and fans of the crossover will be grateful to see it again on streets. We will see how designers and engineers can implement features from the Monograph platform to the QX30. But, when it happens, the small crossover will become one of the stars of the 2020.
2020 Infiniti QX30 Release Date, Future
The new 2020 Infiniti QX30 is a new project. Instead of shutting it down, the company will expand its availability. Definitely, thanks to the concept with electric drivetrain. At the first place, this kind of the small SUV will be interesting to Chinese buyers. This is the fastest-growing automotive market in the world, so the QX30 could have its premiere there. Also, the US market is open for these kinds of models, rather than diesel-powered crossovers and SUVs. Of course, the Infiniti remains on the European market, where the vehicle is going to be built.
