2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel review

As you probably know, the new generation of the legendary SUV has been introduced recently. However, that definitely doesn’t mean that Jeep is done with novelties. The company will continue with novelties for every year model and a new version with an oil burner is next in the line. We are waiting for the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel, which is about to arrive next year.
In the past, diesel versions were always reserved for Europe and few more markets. These days, such engines are massively coming to North America as well. This will be one of them. Simply, this model has all the potential to come with such powertrain and Jeep definitely wants to give a shot.

2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel Design

In terms of overall design, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel definitely won’t be too much different compared to standard gasoline models. Just like with other other engines, two body styles will be in the offer in this case as well. So, you will have a choice between two- and four-door models. The first one looks more attractive and also features cheaper price. On the other side, the bigger model is far more practical, especially for rear passengers.
In terms of the styling, the new Wrangler sticks to its roots and features a very familiar look that hasn’t been changed for decades. A WWII inspired styling remains almost untouched and differences between this one and previous generation are minimal, in marginal areas of the vehicles, such as turn signals and similar things.

Interior

In the past, the interior hasn’t been quite a strong point of Wrangler. Things have changed and the new generation brings significant improvement in this aspect. The 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel will continue in the same way, featuring quality materials and very attractive dashboard, which isn’t among most ergonomic in the class but definitely looks far better than before. Another important thing about the Wrangler is that the new cabin is waterproof.
As we already mentioned, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel will come in two body style, just like the gasoline model. There is a two- and four-door version. The first one is smaller and definitely isn’t very practical if you are going to drive passengers on the rear bench more often. This version can accommodate four passengers but definitely isn’t very comfortable.

On the other side, a four-door version offers much more legroom and can accommodate five adult passengers without bigger problems. Same relation between the two models in terms of cargo capacity. The smaller version features cargo capacity of only 13 cubic feet behind rear seats, while overall capacity goes up to 47. A four-door version is far better in this aspect. It offers around 32 cubic feet behind rear seats and 72 cubic feet of overall capacity.

Trim Levels

We expect to see the same trim level organization as in gasoline models. Therefore, two-door models will be available in Sport, Sport S, and Rubicon. On the other side, four-door models will be available in Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon trim.
The Sport model comes with standard features like steel wheels, cloth upholstery, 5-inch touchscreen, rearview camera, 8-speaker audio, Bluetooth etc.

Moving next to the Sport S model, you get alloy wheels, automatic headlights, keyless entry, leather-wrapped steering wheels etc.
The Sahara trim is available in four-door version only and it adds lots of interesting things. Some of the highlights are 7-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control, smartphone integration, satellite radio etc.

Finally, there is the Rubicon, which is a real off-roader. This model comes with lots of driver aids, such as electronic front and rear locking differentials, an electronically disconnecting front roll bar, rock rails and much more.

2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel Engine

The most important feature of the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel will be its engine. We expect to see a familiar 3.0-liter unit, the same that powers Grand Cherokee, Ram 1500 etc. It is a well-known engine that comes from VM Motori, which delivers around 260 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. Besides plenty of power, you can bet on great mpg ratings, much better compared to gasoline models.

The rest of the lineup will continue with two familiar gasoline units. Those are a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and a new 2.0-liter turbo inline-four. Two engines feature quite a similar amount of power, but the new turbo-four is far more efficient and, therefore, offers much better fuel economy.

A hybrid version is also in plans for the future. However, this model won’t come so soon, definitely not in the next year. Most likely, it will be ready a couple of years, for 2021 or 2022 year model.
