2020 VW Tiguan review

The current generation of Tiguan hasn’t been for too long on the market. It came a couple of years ago but it looks like the company already prepares an update, which should arrive with 2020 VW Tiguan. The reason for such quick updates is simple. The new model is not as good as most of us expected and this refers to many areas. First of all, the styling gained lots of opposite critics, not to mention disappointing engine. All in all, there is a lot of things that expect to see from the updated model.

First of all, the 2020 VW Tiguan should arrive with new styling, as well with a better engine in the offer. Also, count on those typical changes for these updates, such as new color options, more standard equipment etc. Expect to see a new model sometime in the second half of a year.

2020 VW Tiguan Design Changes

This will be a typical mid-cycle refresh. Of course, a facelift will be the most important part of this update. We count on a lot of improvements, which will make this small crossover far more attractive compared to the current model. Without any doubt, the focus will be on the front end. Count on a lot of work on areas like the grille, front bumper, headlights etc. The rear end could also come with a couple of changes, on bumper, taillights and few more areas. On the other side, the overall shape will remain the same. The best we can get from the side are new wheels and color options.

Same goes for the base design characteristics. The 2020 VW Tiguan will continue with identical mechanics, which means the company’s modular MQB architecture, which in this case guarantees relatively satisfying comfort, but totally unimpressive handling and driving dynamics.

2020 VW Tiguan Interior

We don’t expect too many changes inside the 2020 VW Tiguan. This crossover comes with a spacious and comfortable cabin, characterized by hi-quality materials. Seats are massive and supportive, which guarantees lots of comforts during long journeys. As we already mentioned, the overall quality is at a pretty high level, which refers to the dashboard as well. However, the aesthetics definitely aren’t on the same level as at most of the other compact crossovers.

In terms of practicality and functionality, you can count on a decent amount of legroom in the first two rows. The third row seems like a completely unnecessary thing and we believe it would be much better 2020 VW Tiguan to come just as a two-row crossover. Two-row models are far more practical, especially in terms of cargo space, which goes up to 37 cubic feet behind rear seats and 73.5 cubic feet of overall cargo volume. These are definitely above-average numbers for the class.

2020 VW Tiguan Features

This is one of the aspects that should come with improvements for the next year. Still, we doubt in some bigger changes in terms of trim level organization. It should remain unchanged, but each trim should get a couple of novelties.

Keep in mind that the current model is already equipped fairly well. Base models already feature things like roof rails, heated side mirrors, and automatic headlights. On the inside, there is a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, six-speaker audio system etc. Of course, there is much more in higher trims, so you can also get things like leather upholstery, 8-inch touchscreen, HD radio, navigation, panoramic sunroof, Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, a nine-speaker Fender audio system and much more.

We expect improvements in terms of safety features. Currently, a rearview camera is the only standard advanced safety feature in base models. On the other side, the list of available systems is pretty long and includes things adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, forward collision warning etc. Some of these will probably become a part of standard equipment.

2020 VW Tiguan Engine

This aspect is probably the biggest disappointment of the current model. It comes with only one engine in the offer. It is a familiar four-cylinder unit with 184 horsepower, which is paired with 8-speed automatic transmission. On paper, this seems like a fair amount of power, but things somehow seem pretty unimpressive when you hit the gas. Also, the suspension setup is such that you probably won’t find any clue of athleticism.

All these critics would mean nothing if the Tiguan is an economical vehicle. Unfortunately, this crossover is neither fun to drive nor economical. Fuel economy is below-average and goes around 22 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway.

We hope that the next year will bring some novelties under the hood.

2020 VW Tiguan Release Date and Price

We expect to see 2020 VW Tiguan a little bit earlier than usual, but still in the second half of the year. Base models should go around 24.500 dollars.
