The Ford’s smallest crossover has been around for a pretty long time, but the North American version has been introduced just a couple of years ago. That’s why we’ve been seeing pretty notable updates every year. The 2021 Ford EcoSport won’t be any different. We are about to see a couple of interesting novelties, mostly visual ones. On the other side, the cabin and mechanics will remain largely the same.

All this means that you may count on a familiar design, which has been around for years. This small crossover has a couple of strong points, but has some drawbacks as well. When it comes to things we like about this model, those would be things like a large cargo area, advanced infotainment system and solid handling. On the other side, this crossover is a little bit thirsty, offers a firm ride and doesn’t accelerate particularly great. We expect to see it in showrooms in the last quarter of the year.

2021 Ford EcoSport Redesign

When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2021 Ford EcoSport definitely won’t change. This Fiesta-based crossover will continue with the same mechanics and chassis design. The overall exterior design will also remain the same, which means you may count on the same dimensions and familiar styling.

Still, there are some interesting novelties to mention. As you may presume, most of them are in terms of styling. There are some new wheels design in the offer, as well as a couple of new color options – Blue and Luxe Yellow.

Another notable update for the next year is the addition of the SE appearance package. This package includes a lot of interesting details, starting from new 17-inch wheels, leather-wrapped steering wheel, unique cloth upholstery, orange accents on seats and through the cabin etc.

Interior

When it comes to interior design, there aren’t many changes for the 2021 Ford EcoSport. Still, there are some things to mention. First of all, the small crossover doesn’t offer an illuminated glovebox any more, while the 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat is now standard only SES and Titanium models. On the other side, the SE model now comes standard with a 4-way manually-adjustable seat, while the power-adjustability comes with the SE appearance package.

Other than that, the 2021 Ford EcoSport interior remains largely the same. This means you may count on a cabin design that is typical for affordable small crossovers. There is a lot of plastic surfaces, though everything looks well-built. The amount of occupant space is typical for the class but you may count on a quite generous cargo volume. It goes around 21 cubic feet behind the second row and 50 cubic feet of the overall volume. The thing we don’t like about this cabin is that visibility is poor, due to small windows and thick pillars.

Features

Despite that the 2021 Ford EcoSport comes with some reorganization of optional packages, the list of standard and available equipment remains pretty much unchanged. Base models will come equipped with tech goodies like a 4.2-inch display, six speakers, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and two USB ports. Higher trim levels will be far more generous and you may count on goodies like an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, HD Radio, navigation, and a seven-speaker audio system.

When it comes to safety features, a rearview camera is the only thing you get in base models. Additionally, you can get goodies like rear parking sensors, fog lights, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

2021 Ford EcoSport Engines

Things under the hood will definitely remain the same. This means you may count on two familiar engine options in the offer. Base models will come equipped with a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, which puts out around 123 horsepower. The engine by itself works okay, though it definitely lacks punch for more serious driving. The optional 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated units seem like a much better option. It works better and it is certainly more reliable. Of course, it also features more power, 166 horsepower. That’s already a decent amount of power for a vehicle like this. Both engines come in pair with a six-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to fuel economy, the base engine is notably more efficient in the city. It returns around 27 mpg, compared to 23 mpg you get from a naturally-aspirated unit. On the other side, things are pretty much the same on the highway, where both engines return around 29 miles per gallon.
