The current generation of Peugeot’s mid-size crossover has been around for about four years and this seems like perfect timing for a major update. That’s why the 2021 Peugeot 5008 is getting a mid-cycle refresh, which includes a lot of changes. Of course, the styling is in focus but we should also mention a lot of interior changes. Most of them are very similar to the ones we’ve seen in the recent update of the smaller sibling, 3008.
The number of novelties is pretty impressive and all of them will certainly make this crossover a better vehicle. Still, the overall layout will remain pretty much the same and we expect that the current generation will remain in production for several more years. The 2021 Peugeot 5008 will hit the market by the end of the year.
2021 Peugeot 5008 Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2021 Peugeot 5008 receives a typical facelift. This means that there is a lot of visual novelties but the mechanical aspect remains the same. The new version continues to ride on a stretched version of a familiar EMP2 platform, which underprints the 3008 as well. Compared to the compact sibling, this model is notably longer and measures 2.84m (nearly 112 inches) in wheelbase, which ensures a pretty comfortable ride and spacious interior.
On the other side, aesthetics have been significantly improved with this update. You may count on the same approach we’ve seen with the recent 3008 updates. This means a completely new, more prominent grille, which comes in a combination with new headlights, which look way more attractive than before. A big reason for that is also the addition of those vertical daytime LED stripes and turn signals, which make this crossover look very upscale. Another thing you will notice is the “5008” sign on the hood, while the rear end utilizes the same LED segment on the tailgate that connects two taillights.
Interior
On the inside, the 2021 Peugeot 5008 also comes with important updates. One of the first things you’ll notice is a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, which is the same as the one in 3008 and looks really amazing. Also, there is a new 10-inch touchscreen at the center console, which comes with an updated infotainment system. The list of novelties also includes new color schemes and features, as well as new materials, such as brushed aluminum.
On the other side, the overall cabin layout remains pretty much the same. You may count on three spacious rows of seats and one of the things we like about this model is that the second row includes three separate seats, instead of a more typical bench. The total seating capacity is for seven people, while the cargo area also offers respectable measurements. Another thing to mention is that the passenger’s seat also folds down, which is great if you need to load some pretty long objects.
2021 Peugeot 5008 Engines
The 2021 Peugeot 5008 will come with four engines in the offer, two diesel and two gasoline units. Base models will feature a familiar 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which is good for about 130 horsepower. A smaller 1.6-liter turbodiesel is next in the line and it also delivers 130 horsepower, but more torque. Of course, you may also count on a 2.0-liter HDi turbodiesel, which is good for 180 horsepower. A 1.6-liter turbo-four petrol engine is also good for about 180 horsepower but offers better acceleration and top speed.
