If you wonder why the new CX-30 came with such an uncommon name, it’s because of this model, which was designed particularly for the Chines market. It is still sold exclusively in this part of the world and after the recent facelift, we are pretty sure that the 2021 Mazda CX-4 will come without more important changes. We are about to see a familiar design, which includes a refreshed front face and various interior updates.

All this means that you may count on a crossover that features compact dimensions and comes with gorgeous styling, that is based on the company’s latest design language. The sleek profile and coupe-like rear end make this model one of the most attractive crossovers in China, while the cabin features typical Mazda quality. You may count on two familiar engine options, with familiar transmission choices. The new model should hit the market sometime late in the year.

When it comes to the overall design, we definitely won’t see any particular changes in the 2021 Mazda CX-4. Simply, the current generation has been around since 2016 and we expect it will remain in production for several more years. Moreover, the last-year update has brought a new front face, which follows the brand’s latest design language. The new front end has most things in common with the latest version of Mazda 6, with the same grille and headlights layout.

Mechanically, nothing has changed since the initial launch and we don’t expect to see them in the next year either. This is a typical compact crossover, which features a little bit more than 106 inches in wheelbase and uses Mazda’s latest SkyActive technology. We don’t expect bigger changes in this aspect in the next couple of years, until we see a complete overhaul.

Interior

We’ve already mentioned that this model features a typical Mazda quality. Even though it’s a model for the Chinese market, the overall quality isn’t much different from what we can find in models designed for the North American or European market. The last-year update has even brought some interesting novelties, in terms of new color schemes, updated infotainment system, more standard features etc.

In terms of comfort and convenience, there is really nothing to complain about. The seats are massive and comfortable, while the amount of space is generous in both rows, especially when it comes to the legroom. The cargo area also offers a pretty decent amount of space.

2021 Mazda CX-4 Engines

Things under the hood will definitely remain the same for the next year. This means you may count on two familiar engine options. Base models will carry on with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit, which puts out around 158 horsepower. This engine comes coupled with either 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. In higher trim levels, you can get a bigger and more powerful 2.5-liter engine, which puts out around 192 horsepower. Unlike the base engine, this one is available with an automatic gearbox only. Front-wheel drive is standard, but you can opt for AWD models as well.
