It’s no secret that Mazda is working on a new flagship crossover, which will replace the current CX-9. The new model will get an inline-six engine, feature rear-wheel drive and come with many other improvements. However, this won’t happen all that soon and the current generation of the mid-size crossover will remain in production for some more time. Therefore, we are pretty sure that the 2023 Mazda CX-9 will carry on in the same way, without more notable updates.
Despite the age, the current model is still among the best in class. We like its engaging handling, as well as its quite peppy turbo-four engine, which is also pretty efficient. Furthermore, we are talking about one of the nicest interiors in the segment, while the list of standard equipment is pretty long as well. On the other hand, the main complaints go to the tight third row and small cargo area.
Considering that no bigger changes are about to come, we presume that the 2023 Mazda CX-9 will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Mazda CX-9 Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the CX-9 isn’t the freshest model in the segment. Most rivals are younger but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the best. This crossover has aged so well that it still looks super attractive. Of course, the secret is in Mazda’s KODO design language, which proved itself as one of the best design languages we’ve seen in the automotive industry in a long time. Considering all this, we presume that the 2023 Mazda CX-9 will feature no bigger changes, though there is always room for new color options and similar things.
This isn’t just a fancy-looking car. It is also one of the most engaging crossovers to drive, especially among bigger ones. Its chassis is great and provides almost no body lean. At the same time, the suspension setup isn’t all that stiff and the actual level of comfort is pretty impressive.
Interior
Like any other Mazda, this model also looks impressive from the inside. The 2023 Mazda CX-9 will continue in the same way, with a design that combines simplicity and elegance. Besides attractive aesthetics, this interior also features super-nice materials and great build quality.

Besides the look and quality, this cabin is also well-insulated and offers a high level of comfort, at least in the first two rows. The front seats are massive and supportive, while the second row accommodates adults with ease. On the other hand, the third row is tight and works for kids only.
The small cargo area is one of the biggest drawbacks of the current model. You may count 14.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind its third-row seats, 38.2 cubic feet with these seats folded, and 71.2 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. For comparison, Kia Telluride offers up to 87 cubic feet of cargo space.
Features
The 2023 Mazda CX-9 probably won’t feature any notable change in this aspect, so the list of standard features should remain largely the same. Therefore, base models should come standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, remote start, a 10.25-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, navigation, Bluetooth, voice recognition, a six-speaker stereo, and six USB ports. Among upgrades, expect to find options like wireless device charging, a 7-inch instrument cluster display, a rear-seat entertainment system, a 10-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound stereo, and an additional USB port.
The same thing goes for safety features. So, all models should come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control and many more.
2023 Mazda CX-9 Engine
Things under the hood won’t change either. The 2023 Mazda CX-9 will carry on with a peppy 2.5-liter turbo-four, which puts out 227 horsepower. If you pour premium fuel, the max output can go all-away up to 250 horsepower and impressive 320 pound-feet of torque. Driving dynamics are great, while the 6-speed automatic transmission is smooth and refined. All-wheel drive is standard.
Besides strong performance, this SUV also offers good fuel economy. It goes around 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, which is very good for an AWD layout.

2023 Mazda CX-9 Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 Mazda CX-9 will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 36.000 dollars.
