The famous nameplate has been out of use for almost a decade and the latest iteration comes in a radically different layout than before. Instead of super-thirsty SUVs and trucks, we will see all-electric models, with superior efficiency and plenty of other qualities on offer. From what we know so far, the initial version of the all-new 2023 GMC Hummer SUV is about to come already this year, while the cheaper versions are about to arrive sometime in 2023.
Just like the pickup, the Hummer SUV will also bring tons of interesting novelties and design solutions. Of course, the two models will be heavily related, but the SUV model will come with many differences, starting from a smaller size, smaller battery package and less power. On the other hand, most of the interior design will be the same and despite the rumors, we won’t see versions with three rows of seats.
2023 GMC Hummer SUV Design
When it comes to base design characteristics, it’s not hard to realize that the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV will be based on GM’s new Ultium platform, which will be used for all future battery-electric models in this company. Also, it’s even easier to realize that most of the parts will be shared with the recently introduced pickup version of the new Hummer. The two models will share most of the mechanics, while the styling approach will be pretty much the same as well.
Still, the SUV version will be slightly smaller compared to the pickup. It will feature an 8.9-inch shorter wheelbase, which will have an impact on many things. Not only that this will affect the interior space, but this also means that the battery capacity will be smaller.
Visually, the two models will share most of their designs. Other than the lack of a cargo bed, the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV will look very similar to the pickup sibling. However, it will come with a couple of exclusive details as well.
These exclusive details don’t refer just to the styling, but also to the mechanical aspect of the vehicle. From what we know so far, this SUV will be available with the extreme off-road package. It will include a bunch of off-road upgrades. Some of the highlights will be features like 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch mud-terrain tires, skid plates, rock sliders, a front electronically locking differential, rear motors that can electronically mimic a locked differential, underbody cameras etc.
2023 GMC Hummer SUV Powertrain and Battery
Just like in the case of the pickup, Edition 1 will be the first version to come. This will be the most capable Hummer SUV on the offer but it won’t have the truck’s 1000 horsepower. Instead, it will feature a lower max output, which will go around 830 horsepower. Still, that will be more than enough power to ensure strong performance. Allegedly, this SUV will be able to hit 60 in about 3.5 seconds. We also know that the battery will be smaller, though we don’t know the exact capacity. Still, we expect that the max range will go around 300 miles.
Lower-grade models will come sometime in 2023, with lower max output, which will probably go around 625 horsepower. The max range would go between 250 and 300 miles, depending on the version you pick.
Interior
When it comes to interior design, many things will be shared with the pickup model. This particularly refers to the dashboard design, which will look identical. So, expect to see a max of futuristic/simplistic design solutions and modern tech features. This means we are about to see the same 13.4-inch infotainment screen, in a combination with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, along with other tech goodies. Also, the cabin should also feature the same elements as the pickup, which celebrate GM’s involvement in Apollo missions. This refers to details that mimic moon footsteps, Sea of Tranquility etc.
When it comes to seating configuration, the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV will come with two rows of seats and the ability to accommodate up to five passengers. Both rows should be very generous with space and super-comfortable for taller passengers. The cargo area should offer respectable volume as well.
2023 GMC Hummer SUV Release Date and Price
We expect the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV Edition 1 this year, while the rest of the lineup should arrive in 2023. The Edition 1 should cost around $106.000, while the base version is expected to go around $80.000. Key competitors should be models like Rivian R1S, Bollinger B1, Tesla Model X etc.
