By The legendary Hummer is coming back! This time, we are about to see a little bit different design approach, as the new model will be all-electric. Furthermore, the Hummer is now a subsidiary brand of GMC, reserved for electric vehicles only. The new model is coming already this year, as 2022 GMC Hummer EV and we have big expectations from it.
From what we know so far, only the range-topping version of the new Hummer will come by the end of this year. The rest of the lineup will join during 2022. The new model will come in a form of a pickup truck first, while the SUV version is expected in the future as well.
2022 GMC Hummer EV Redesign
The 2022 GMC Hummer EV will be one of the first models to ride on GM’s new platform, developed for all-electric vehicles. Among numerous technologies and design solutions, one thing is particularly interesting – we are talking about the Ultium battery technology, which supports a capacity of up to 200 kWh.
Besides numerous advanced technologies, this model will also come with a bunch of common design solutions. This particularly refers to the styling and overall exterior design, which will closely resemble the previous generations of Hummer. The front end features a recognizable grille design, while the first body style to come will be a pickup truck. We are about to see a crew cab pickup, with a 5-foot cargo bed.
Interior
The inside of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV will be interesting in many ways. First of all, we are about to see a completely new layout, which will look much different compared to the old Hummers used to be. The old Hummers were tight and not particularly stylish from the inside, while the new model will be completely the opposite. We’ve already mentioned the crew cab design, which will provide two spacious rows of seats that accommodate adults with ease. Furthermore, the cabin will feature high overall quality and lots of styling details. Among them, you can also find things like a moon-boot footprint on the dead pedal and speaker grilles that show the Sea of Tranquility. These details celebrate GM’s history in NASA space programs, considering that this company participated in the building of the Moon Rover.
The new cabin will be also packed with lots of tech features. Of course, the most notable are two massive screens – a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an even bigger 13.4-inch infotainment screen. Of course, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV will come equipped with tech goodies like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging and many other goodies. We also count on a lot of driver assistance features, including the company’s well-known Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system.
2022 GMC Hummer EV Drivetrain and Performance
We’ve finally come to the most interesting part of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV. The new Hummer will feature an all-electric powertrain and from what we know so far, the most capable version will come first. We are talking about a setup that features a total output of 1.000 horsepower and 1.100 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to move this large truck from zero to sixty in just 3.0 seconds. Also, you may count on a pretty respectable 11.000 pounds. Less capable versions are expected to come later.
Besides excellent capabilities, the new 2022 Hummer EV will also feature a pretty respectable max range. We estimate around 350 miles on a single charge. Also, you may count on various charging options, including a 350-kW fast charger, which adds 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
2022 GMC Hummer EV Release Date and Price
As we already mentioned, the First Edition will be the first variant of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV to come. It will come by the end of this year, with a starting price of around 112.500 dollars. The rest of the lineup will come during 2022 and the most basic versions should cost around 80.000 dollars. Key competitors will be models like Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, Bollinger B1 etc.
