By The new generation of Acura’s popular three-row SUV has just arrived and after a great reception from experts and crowd, it’s time for a hi-performance version. The Japanese manufacturer is bringing the famous Type S badge back and the new version is about to hit the market by the end of the year. At this point, we know for sure that the 2022 Acura MDX Type S will feature a new, more powerful engine, but that won’t be the only upgrade compared to the standard model.
From what we know so far, this version will bring several more upgrades, particularly in terms of mechanics. We count on upgraded suspension, steering, brakes etc. Furthermore, we expect to see a couple of styling upgrades, which will accentuate the model’s performance character.

2022 Acura MDX Type S Engine

Of course, the powertrain won’t be the only aspect of the vehicle with big upgrades. Many of them will come in terms of mechanics as well. Compared to the standard model, the 2022 Acura MDX Type S will certainly feature an upgraded suspension setup. It will be stiffer and we will probably see a little bit lower ground clearance, which will provide better handling and less body roll. Speaking about handling, we also expect revisions in terms of steering, which should be more direct. Naturally, we also count on upgraded brakes, with more stopping power.

You may count on a seating capacity for seven, with the third row that’s not all that tight, which can be pretty functional. Also, this SUV offers a pretty solid amount of cargo room. You may count on about 16.5 cubic feet behind the third row, as well as on 39.1 cubic feet with the third row folded down.

This will be one of the most expensive MDX models on the offer, so there is no doubt that the list of standard equipment will be pretty long. Just like standard models, it will come with goodies like a 12.3-inch display, a touchpad controller, satellite radio, HD Radio, USB ports, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, Amazon Alexa, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Furthermore, we expect that upgrades like a 25-speaker audio system and navigation will be on the list of standard equipment as well.

We expect that the 2022 Acura MDX Type S will hit the market later in the year, probably in the last quarter. Most likely, the base price will go around 65.000 dollars. Key competitors should be similarly priced performance SUVs, such as Audi SQ5, Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 etc.
