The automotive industry is moving toward electrification pretty quickly and like most other carmakers, GM is also bringing a lot of novelties of this type. Besides mainstream models, there are also big plans for the premium segment and the first model of this type to come will be the 2022 Cadillac Lyriq. It will come as a premium luxury crossover, which will compete with already established electric SUVs like Jaguar I-Pace.
At this point, we know some of the base design features, such as the platform. On the other hand, the company still hides details about power, range and similar numbers. On the other hand, Cadillac has already shown the look, whether it’s about the exterior or interior design.
The new model is expected to hit the market sometime in the next year, though the exact details are yet to come.

2022 Cadillac Lyriq Design
When it comes to base design characteristics, the thing that we definitely know a lot about is the platform. Of course, we are talking about GM’s new, modular architecture, which will be used for all kinds of electric vehicles, no matter the size. Furthermore, we know that the new platform supports a wide range of battery setups, from 50 to 200 kWh.
As we’ve just mentioned, the company showed the exterior design. We can see bits of Cadillac’s familiar design solutions, but the overall design language is definitely new, with notable differences compared to the current lineup. This particularly refers to the front end, which adopts a lot of new, sharp shapes. At the same time, the grille resembles the legendary shield-like shape of the logo.
When it comes to the overall shape, the new model features a modern, so-called coupe crossover layout. Of course, we are talking about that sloping roof design, something that is very popular these days. We don’t expect that the production version could be significantly different from the concept version.
Interior
A great thing is that the company has also shown the interior design and from what we can see in the photos, things look really promising. The dashboard is highlighted by a massive screen, which integrates instrument cluster, infotainment screen and other controls, in a similar fashion as the new Escalade. The rest of the dash also includes a lot of Cadillac’s recognizable interior design solutions.

When it comes to the passenger space, we can’t be too specific at this point, but we expect that the production version will rather come with the second-row bench, instead of separated seats. Still, the latter could be offered as an option. In any case, we count on two spacious rows of seats, while the sloping roof shouldn’t compromise the second-row headroom. On the other hand, the cargo area probably won’t be too big.
Features
We have no doubt that the 2022 Cadillac Lyriq will come packed with a full load of features. We already mentioned a massive screen that will highlight the dashboard. Furthermore, we have no doubt that things like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be on the list of standard equipment, just like wireless charging, a WI-Fi hotspot and similar things. Also, we presume that range-topping models will come equipped with AKG’s premium 19-speaker audio system.
Of course, we count on all kinds of driver-assistance features in the offer as well. We count on Cadillac’s well-known Super Cruise, as well as on things like automatic emergency braking, pedestrian protection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and many more.
2022 Cadillac Lyriq Engine and Performance
We presume that the 2022 Cadillac Lyriq will come in a couple of different configurations on the offer. Base models are expected to come with a single electric motor, mounted on the rear axle. Rumors suggest a max output of around 340 horsepower, which should provide solid acceleration. We estimate that the 0-60 time would go around 4.5 seconds. Also, there is no doubt that Cadillac will also offer a performance version, which would come with the additional electric motor at the front. However, the exact numbers are still unknown.
When it comes to battery, we already mentioned that GM’s new platform accommodates all kinds of capacities. In this case, we presume that the capacity will go around 100 kWh. That should be enough to provide around 300 miles of range. More details should come soon.

2022 Cadillac Lyriq Release Date and Price
At this point, all we know is that the 2022 Cadillac Lyriq should arrive sometime in the next year. A more precise date is yet to be announced. On the other hand, we know that the base version will cost around 60.000 dollars.
