2023 Cadillac XT5 Redesign Delayed!?

Some time ago, Cadillac officials announced that the company engineers were working on the next generation of the XT5. The plan was to introduce the all-new model in the 2023 years. However, GM delayed many projects in the last year, due to semiconductor issues and now, it looks like the redesign of this model will be delayed for another year. This clearly indicates that the 2023 Cadillac XT5 would come without more important changes and that it would most likely represent the final production year of the first generation.

This means we know what to expect from the next year’s model. The XT5 will continue to deliver familiar characteristics, such as good efficiency, plenty of passenger space, capable optional V6 engine etc. However, there are also a few things to complain about, such as unimpressive interior quality, unimpressive ride quality etc.

As there are no significant changes to come, we believe that the 2023 Cadillac XT5 will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Cadillac XT5 Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Cadillac XT5 will represent the final production year of the current, first generation. Therefore, the overall layout will remain the same. We expect to see the same familiar styling which, even though it doesn’t follow the brand’s latest design language, still looks pretty nice.

The same thing goes for the mechanical aspect of the car. This is a crossover that rides on the company’s familiar C1 platform and measures 112.5 inches in wheelbase, which is pretty impressive for the class. It’s practically the same wheelbase as on the mid-size GMC Acadia. As a result, the amount of passenger space is very generous, but we will get on that in a minute. On the other hand, things aren’t all that impressive in terms of the ride quality, which isn’t as smooth as you would expect from a premium compact SUV.

Interior

Considering that we are talking about the final production year of the generation, it’s hard to believe that bigger interior changes could happen. We expect to see the familiar interior design, which looks nice though not as upscale as most rivals. The overall build quality is okay, though we would expect to see a little bit finer materials and a little bit more attention to detail in a model of this class.

While the interior quality may not be impressive, there is nothing to complain about regarding passenger space. Thanks to the long wheelbase, both rows are very generous with space and accommodate adults with great comfort. Furthermore, the front seats are massive and supportive. There are also plenty of adjustment options, so it’s quite easy to find a perfect driving position.

When it comes to cargo capacity, you may count on about 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind its back seats and 63 cubic feet with them folded. That’s about average for the segment.

Features

We don’t expect to see bigger changes in this aspect either. The list of standard equipment should remain largely the same and include goodies like dual-zone climate control, remote start, an 8-inch touch screen, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, four USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. On the other hand, the list of available features should include goodies like tri-zone climate control, a sunroof, wireless device charging, navigation, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

When it comes to safety, we expect to see base models with things like a rearview camera, safety alert seat, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, parking sensors, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, rear seat reminder etc. The list of options should include a head-up display, night-vision assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane change alert, rear cross-traffic alert, surround-view camera and many more.

2023 Cadillac XT5 Engines

Under the hood, the 2023 Cadillac XT5 will continue with two familiar powertrain options. Base models will come with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. That’s plenty enough to satisfy most drivers and we believe this engine is a great choice because of its good efficiency. It returns around 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, which is very good for the class.

For those who look for something more capable, there is a 3.6-liter V6 with 310 horsepower. This engine is smoother and offers notably better driving dynamics. However, it’s also thirstirer, as it returns around 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

Both engines come coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which is smooth and generally does a good job.
