2022 GMC Jimmy Release date

The market of genuine, body-on-frame pickup trucks is getting bigger and bigger, despite the overflow of crossovers. Models like Jeep Wrangler and Toyota 4Runner are more popular than ever, while there is also a brand-new version of Ford Bronco, which returned after three decades. Therefore, it seems logical that GM wants its piece of cake. According to the latest reports, it will get it from the upcoming 2022 GMC Jimmy, another familiar nameplate that will come back after years of break.

At this point, the officials are still pretty mysterious with details, so we have to rely mostly on rumors. From what we can hear, this will be a genuine SUV and it will offer some serious off-road performance. Furthermore, we count on a couple of pretty capable engine options in the offer, including a turbodiesel. The new 2022 GMC Jimmy should arrive already in the next year.

2022 GMC Jimmy Redesign

When it comes to base design characteristics, the first and most important thing is that this will be a genuine body-on-frame SUV, unlike the new Blazer which came as a unibody crossover. The new 2022 GMC Jimmy will be a truck-based SUV and it will share the platform with GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado. Of course, the architecture will be significantly updated, considering that the two trucks have been around for nearly a decade.

The same thing goes for aesthetics. We presume that the 2022 GMC Jimmy will take a lot of inspiration from GMC’s current models, particularly the new Yukon. Of course, the Jimmy would come in a notably smaller package. We expect to see typical mid-size SUV proportions. According to rumors, this SUV won’t offer two-door variants like Wranger or Bronco. Instead, it will come as a genuine five-door mid-size SUV, which will offer a practical and spacious cabin. Furthermore, three-row versions are expected as well.

Already base models should be pretty capable in terms of off-road performance, but we presume that GMC will offer a couple of pretty special versions as well. Of course, one of the first that comes to mind is the AT4. This trim will certainly come with a lot of off-road hardware. Some of the things that come are upgraded suspension, higher ground clearance, standard 4WD, skid plats, low gearing, locking differentials etc.

Interior

When it comes to interior design, the first thing that comes to mind is functionality. AS we already mentioned, two-door models probably won’t come. Instead, all variants will feature five doors and plenty of interior space. We presume that the overall size would be similar to the 4Runner, which means we could expect a similar amount of passenger and cargo space as well. Most likely, base models will come with two rows of seats, while a 7-seat version should be offered as well.

When it comes to the dashboard and overall cabin design, we count on a lot of influence from the full-size Yukon, which came completely redesigned last year. That would mean nice aesthetics, in a combination with quality materials and good overall build quality.

Of course, we count on a lot of standard and available features, especially when it comes to tech goodies. This includes the latest infotainment system with a large touchscreen, while wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay should be in the offer too. Furthermore, we also expect to see a lot of advanced driver aids in the offer.

2022 GMC Jimmy Engines

When it comes to powertrain, we don’t expect surprises, at least when it comes to base models. They should come with a well-known 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 310 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. We are pretty sure that this won’t be the only powertrain option on the offer. We also presume that GM will offer a diesel version. That model could come to borrow a 2.8-liter turbo-four from Canyon/Colorado, which puts out around 180 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque. However, we could also see a bigger and more powerful 3.0-liter V6, which is good for a pretty impressive 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

A more efficient gasoline engine option could be offered as well. That could be a familiar 2.7-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque.
