After a year-long delay, the refreshed 2022 Buick Enclave is here. Initially, the update was planned for the 2021 model year, but it was eventually prologued for the next year, due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The new model is finally here, and it brings a number of interesting novelties, which should help this large family SUV compete better.
Of course, the most notable are styling changes, but we should also mention a couple of interesting interior changes. Another important update came in the form of new safety features. On the other hand, things under the hood have remained the same.
All in all, you may count on a more modern look, with familiar characteristics. This three-row SUV offers plenty of passenger space and also a pretty large cargo hold. Furthermore, the ride is very smooth, while to powertrain offers a solid amount of power. Some of the main complaints go to subpar interior quality and low safety scores.
2022 Buick Enclave Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Buick Enclave has finally received an update. The new version comes with a notably updated styling, particularly at the front. You can see new, much slimmer headlights, along with a new bumper design, which provides a much more aggressive appearance. On the other end, taillights are new, as well as the rear bumper. Naturally, there are also new wheels designs, as well as new color options.
Mechanically, the 2022 Buick Enclave features no bigger changes. The overall layout is the same as in the pre-facelifted model, and it is based on a familiar C1 platform, the same one that underprints Chevy Traverse. The suspension setup is pretty good. You may count on a high level of comfort, while damping has been done pretty decently and there is not too much body roll in corners.
On the inside, you won’t notice too many changes. The biggest one is on the center console, where there is a new push-button gear selector, which makes the cabin look more modern. Other than that, the dashboard design looks pretty much the same, though there are new color schemes in the offer.
The overall quality remained pretty much the same. We can’t say if that’s a good thing or not, but materials and build quality definitely aren’t on par with premium crossovers. Models like Acura MDX or Audi Q7 look way better from the inside.
On the other hand, a few models can match Enclave’s amount of cabin room. You may count on three spacey rows of seats, where even the third row can accommodate adults pretty easily. When it comes to cargo volume, you may count on about 23.6 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 58 cubic feet behind the second row, and 97.6 behind the first. Those are impressive numbers for the class.
Some of the biggest changes that were introduced with this update are those in terms of safety features. Many driver-assist features that were options before are now on the list of standard equipment. Some of the highlights are goodies like rear cross-traffic alert, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic high-beam headlamps. On the other hand, adaptive cruise control remained an option.
When it comes to tech goodies, the base 2022 Buick Enclave is equipped with a familiar 8-inch touchscreen but a big novelty is the addition of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The list of standard equipment also includes USB ports in all three rows of seats and a Wi-Fi hotspot, to name a few. On the other hand, the navigation system remains optional, just like wireless charging.
2022 Buick Enclave Engine
There are no changes under the hood for the 2022 Buick Enclave. You may count on a well-known 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 310 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to the front wheels. Of course, AWD models are available too.
The overall impression regarding the powertrain is good. The engine has enough power to move this SUV confidently, while the transmission does a pretty fine job too. However, we feel that the fuel economy could be better. This SUV returns around 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Of course, models with all-wheel drive are slightly thirstier.
2022 Buick Enclave Price and Competition
The 2022 Buick Enclave starts at around 42.000 dollars. That’s somewhere between premium and mainstream segments, so the Enclave competes with various three-row SUVs. Some of them are models like Acura MDX and Genesis GV80, but there are also higher-grade versions of models like Mazda CX-9, Hyundai Palisade etc.
