The segment of subcompact crossover is pretty competitive and most carmakers tend to refresh their models quite frequently. That’s something we can’t say for the Encore, considering that the current and the only generation has been around for almost a decade. Meanwhile, the company introduced the Encore GX, which is much more modern, but somehow, the original Encore still remains in production. According to the latest reports, the 2023 Buick Encore will also be offered and, most likely, it will be the final production year of the generation.
Therefore, it’s hard to expect any bigger changes. We count on a familiar design, which was refreshed a few years ago but which hasn’t changed significantly during this decade-long production. So, you may count on a crossover that still has a couple of good things to offer, such as great maneuverability, a comfortable ride and intuitive infotainment controls.
We expect that the 2023 Buick Encore will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2023 Buick Encore Design
As we’ve just mentioned, this crossover has been in production for almost a decade. Even the facelift was almost five years ago, so you may think that this small SUV feels outdated. Well, we can argue about that, especially in terms of aesthetics. It looks decent but younger rivals probably look more attractive. Still, the vehicle is far from looking old and unattractive.
On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle still feels quite relevant. This crossover rides on a Gamma II platform and it offers a quite smooth and comfortable ride. It is also quite maneuverable, due to its size. On the other hand, we can’t say it’s particularly engaging to drive. In that aspect, there are rivals that offer way more athleticism, models like Mazda CX-30 in particular.
Interior
The cabin of this crossover still looks modern enough to compete with younger rivals. What we particularly like is the fact that the overall build quality is at a pretty high level. The materials are pretty nice in almost all areas. Also, everything looks put very well together, which isn’t always the case in this segment. The amount of tech features is decent, while the infotainment system is simple and quite easy to use.
Despite the small size, there is a pretty decent amount of passenger space inside this crossover. Both rows are capable of accommodating adult passengers, which isn’t always the case in this segment. The cargo area offers around 19 cubic feet behind the second row and 49 cubic feet of the total cargo volume, which is about average for the segment.
Features
Considering that this will most likely be the final production year, it’s pretty much for sure that the list of standard and available equipment won’t bring any notable changes. Instead, we expect to see the same list of standard equipment, which currently includes goodies like a 7-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two USB ports, Bluetooth, voice recognition, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and Siri Eyes Free, proximity keyless entry and push-button start.
The same thing is with safety features. So, base models should come only with a rearview camera, while the list of options should include goodies like blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rain-sensing windshield wipers, parking sensors, forward collision warning, lane departure warning etc.
2023 Buick Encore Engines
Of course, the 2023 Buick Encore will continue in the same way, with a single powertrain option on offer. That is a familiar 1.4-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 155 horsepower, which seems quite enough to provide decent performance. The engine comes in pair with a six-speed automatic transmission, which also does a pretty decent job.
When it comes to fuel economy, you may expect something like 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, which is about average for a subcompact crossover.
2023 Buick Encore Release Date and Price
Considering that no bigger changes are about to happen, we expect that the 2023 Buick Encore will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 24.000 dollars.
