The new generation of Mercedes’s compact crossover is on the way and we expect it will hit the market in the following months, as the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC. At this point, we already know a lot of details about the next generation, even though the German manufacturer tries to keep things a secret. This redesign will bring a lot of novelties and improvements, whether it’s about design solutions or new technologies.
Just like the previous iteration, the new model will also share most of its parts with the C-Class. Considering that the new-generation sedan has just been launched, we know what to expect from the new SUV, at least in some aspects. This particularly refers to the interior design, exterior aesthetics and features. Moreover, some of the powertrain options will be shared as well.
2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Design
This will be a full redesign, so we expect to see a lot of novelties and changes. As we’ve just mentioned, the next generation will also share most of the parts with the C-Class, just like the previous model. Considering that the new sedan is already here, we know what to expect. The general aesthetical approach should be the same, especially at the front. Of course, the rest of the body will come in a completely different manner. Just like the outgoing model, the new one will be offered both as a classic SUV and as a coupe.
Compared to the outgoing model, the new one will feature slightly bigger dimensions. It will also ride on a new platform, which will bring a lot of changes, including a completely new suspension and chassis setup. As a result, we expect to see further improvements regarding ride quality, even though the outgoing model is already pretty impressive in this aspect.
This aspect of the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC is a pretty easy guess. Simply, we expect things to be very similar to the new sedan, particularly in terms of the dashboard design. This means we are about to see a new layout, that brings a new design with a couple of pretty massive screens. Of course, one of them is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while the other one is an 11.9-inch infotainment system. Even though the dashboard is completely new, there are some recognizable details, such as numerous round air vents and similar things.
Considering that the new generation will feature slightly bigger dimensions, we also expect to see slightly more space on the inside. Still, that shouldn’t be anything significant, as the current model is already pretty generous in this aspect and accommodates adults in both rows with ease. The same thing is with the cargo area, which could bring only a minor volume increase.
2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, we know for sure that the initial version of the North American model will come with just one engine on offer. That would be a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 258 horsepower. It will come coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission, with standard rear-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive.
Of course, this won’t be the only powertrain available. Later, we expect to see a few more options. One of them could be the current 3.0-inline-six, while some sources also speculate about an upgrade version of the turbo-four, with around 400 horsepower. Both this one and the base one will come with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.
Some sources also claim that the twin-turbo V8 will remain on offer. This engine powers the AMG 63 version of the SUV, and offers up to 503 horsepower of the max output in the current generation.
2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Release Date and Price
The exact release date is yet to be announced but we believe that the North American version will probably arrive in the first half of the next year. When it comes to the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC price, base models should go around 45.000 dollars. Of course, models like BMW X3 and Audi Q5 will remain key competitors.
