The spacious and practical compact luxury crossover arrived last year as a completely new model. If you’re familiar with the German carmaker, you know what’s going to happen in the second production year. Of course, we are talking about a hi-performance version with the famous AMG badge. This will be the biggest novelty for the crossover that already stands out as one of the most spacious models in the class. Other than that, we don’t expect to see any particular changes. Still, there is always room for things like new standard and available features. In terms of base design characteristics, the 2021 Mercedes Benz GLB will carry on in a familiar way.

This means you may count on a crossover that has a lot of things to offer, starting from a spacious and well-built cabin, which comes with super-fine materials and loads of tech features. Also, the engine lineup will be more impressive now, though the standard model already offers a pretty amazing balance between power and efficiency. We expect to see 2021 Mercedes Benz GLB in the next couple of months.

In terms of base design characteristics, the 2021 Mercedes Benz GLB definitely won’t change. Simply, we are talking about a model that has been introduced just a year ago. It features a modern, hi-tech design, which is combined with a lot of styling elements that resemble the legendary G class. However, this model definitely isn’t an off-roader. It is rather a typical crossover, despite the bulky shaper. In fact, it shares most of its details with the GLC model.

For the next year, the biggest novelty will be the addition of a hi-performance version, under the famous AMG badge. This model will come not just with a more powerful engine, but also with all kinds of mechanical and aesthetical upgrades. You may count on a more attractive look, but also on an upgraded suspension, brakes and similar things.

Interior

We don’t expect bigger changes on the inside, except for the AMG model. Base versions will carry on in the same way, which means you may count on a well-designed and spacious cabin. The overall interior quality is at an impressive level and this is certainly one of the finest models in the class, when this aspect. The materials are fantastic, as well as final touches. Additionally, the long list of standard equipment makes everything look even more opulent.

This crossover comes standard with two rows of seats. Still, 111.4 inches in wheelbase are plenty enough for the optional third row. When it comes to cargo capacity, the overall volume goes around 62 cubic feet. That’s not a particularly impressive number but it is still higher compared to the GLC Class.

Features

As we already mentioned, each trim level could come with a couple of additions in terms of standard and optional equipment. Still, we are pretty sure that these changes will be minimal. So, expect to see base models with goodies like a 7-inch digital instrument gauge cluster, a 7-inch touch screen, a touchpad controller, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, HD Radio, voice recognition etc. In higher trim levels, you may also count on goodies like navigation, a 10.25-inch touch screen, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, satellite radio, a 12-speaker Burmester stereo, wireless charging etc.

When it comes to safety, all models will come standard with systems like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a rearview camera, pedestrian detection, crosswind assist. Higher trim levels bring goodies like blind spot monitoring, front and rear cross traffic alert, parallel and perpendicular park assist, a surround-view parking camera system, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, speed limit assist, automatic high-beam headlights etc.

In terms of powertrain, base models will carry on with a well-known 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. That seems quite enough for most drivers and dynamics are actually pretty good. Moreover, fuel economy is also pretty good, as this crossover returns around 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

For the next year, the German carmaker will introduce the AMG versions. Initially, we will see the GLB35 version, which will come with a turbo-four that puts out around 302 horsepower. That will be enough to ensure 0-60 spring in just a little bit over five seconds. Eventually, we will see the GLB45 version with 382 horsepower.
