If we can trust the latest reports, the Bavarian carmaker prepares a mid-cycle update for the 2023 model year, while the 2022 BMW X6 is expected to be a typical carryover model. That makes perfect sense, considering that the current generation has been around for just a couple of years. We will see the same overall layout in the next year, though there is always a chance to see minor updates, in terms of new color options, new standard features and similar things.

You may count on the same overall layout. This crossover has a lot of good things to offer, starting from engaging handling and a long lineup of powerful engines. Furthermore, we like its interior design, as well as a long list of standard equipment. On the other side, that sloping roof may look fancy but compromises practicality a lot.

We expect that the 2022 BMW X6 will hit the market sometime late in the year.

2022 BMW X6 Redesign

Considering that the current generation has been around for just a couple of years, it’s obvious that the 2022 BMW X6 will carry on with the same overall design. Of course, it has a lot of things in common with the more conventional X5. It rides on the same platform, features the same mechanics and has a lot of styling details in common.

Of course, this particular model stands out with its sloping roof, which provides that coupe-like appearance. The 2022 BMW X6 will continue with the same styling, though we won’t exclude the possibility to see smaller updates, such as new color options and similar things. Naturally, the M-badged models will continue with all those upgrades, starting from enhanced styling, upgraded suspensions and brakes, exclusive interior details etc.

Interior

We don’t expect to see any surprises on the inside. Simply, the current cabin already looks pretty good, especially to those who don’t like modern interiors that look too “high-tech”. This dashboard is more conventional and keeps a lot of physical controls. What’s more important, the materials are great, as well as the build quality. It’s hard to find any bigger complaint in this aspect.

On the other hand, we can complain a lot about interior functionality. That sloping roof isn’t particularly friendly when it comes to rear-seat headroom. Also, the cargo area is pretty small for the class. In numbers, you may count on about 27.4 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats upright and 59.6 cubic feet with those seats folded.

The front seats are completely the opposite. You may count on a couple of well-cushioned and comfortable seats. They offer plenty of room, even for the tallest passengers. The driving position is as in any other BMW – excellent. However, the rearward visibility could be better.

Features

Novelties in terms of new standard and available features are always possible. However, we don’t believe we could see too many of them in the 2022 BMW X6. Instead, we presume that the list of standard equipment will remain pretty much the same. So, base models should come with goodies like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, HD Radio, satellite radio, a 10-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, five USB ports, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, a hands-free power liftgate, and a panoramic moonroof. Among options, you may find quad-zone climate control, wireless device charging, a Wi-Fi hot spot, hand gesture recognition, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, and a 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins stereo.

When it comes to safety, all models will come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, adaptive LED headlights, automatic high-beam headlights, driver drowsiness monitoring, and road sign recognition.

2022 BMW X6

We count on three familiar engine options for the 2022 BMW X6. Of course, base models will continue with a good-old 3.0-liter inline-six, which puts out around 335 horsepower and which will satisfy most drivers. This engine is also quite efficient, considering that it returns around 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

Those who are looking for something faster can choose two V8 versions, both equipped with a well-known 4.4-liter engine. The first one is the M50i, which features a max output of 523 horsepower. The other one is the X6 M, which features a full 600 horsepower and needs just 3.8 seconds to hit 60 mph.

All three engines come in pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which works excellent.
