The Blue Oval company is expanding its pickup lineup. Besides traditional body-on-frame trucks, we will also see a model that rides on a unibody platform. This one will come as the 2022 Ford Maverick and it will bring a lot of excitement in terms of driving characteristics. On the other hand, it definitely won’t be as capable as its body-on-frame counterparts. From what we know so far, the sales will start by the end of the year. The company is currently taking reservations for it.
When it comes to base design characteristics, the new pickup will share a lot of parts with the new Bronco Sport, not just in terms of mechanics, but in terms of aesthetics as well. The inside will look pretty similar too, very car-like. Another interesting aspect of this pickup will be the powertrain department, as we will see a hybrid version in the offer too.

2022 Ford Maverick Redesign
The most interesting part of the 2022 Ford Maverick will be its base layout. Unlike the Ranger and F-150, this model will ride on a unibody platform. It’s a rare thing today, even though there are some models, such as Honda Ridgeline. Let’s not forget the upcoming Santa Cruz, which should be the Maverick’s biggest rival.
The 2022 Ford Maverick will ride on Ford’s familiar C2 platform. It is the same one that underprints the current-generation Focus, Escape etc. However, most parts will be shared with the new Bronco Sport. The two models will use the same mechanics, as well as a pretty similar suspension setup. Of course, base models will feature front-wheel drive, while RWD will be available too.
Exterior
When it comes to the overall exterior design, the 2022 Ford Maverick will feature a typical pickup layout. From what we know so far, the double cab version will be the only one on the offer. When it comes to the size, the new model will feature nearly 200 inches in total lengths, as well as 121.1 inches in wheelbase.

Still, the most interesting will be the styling. We saw a lot of photos of the new Maverick and it’s pretty easy to see similarities with the Bronco Sport. Still, the Maverick is pretty unique, as it features a different front end, with unique headlights, a bigger grille and a different bumper design.
Interior
A lot of similarities with Bronco Sport are expected on the inside as well. This particularly refers to the dashboard design, which should feature a lot of similar design solutions and patterns. The instrument cluster should look pretty similar, while the center stack will probably come with slightly revised air vents.
From what we can see in the photos, the new Maverick features four full-size doors, which indicates enough space in both rows of seats. Naturally, the list of standard equipment should be pretty long as well.
The 2022 Ford Maverick will be available in three trim levels – XL, XLT, and Lariat, while the First Edition model will come in limited series. From what we know so far, all models will come standard with goodies like an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, FordPass 4G LTE modem, power windows, exterior side mirrors, and door locks, air conditioning, and a multifunction steering wheel. Things like a Bang and Olufsen premium eight-speaker audio system with an amplifier, a keyless access and entry system, heated front seats, a remote vehicle starter system, a trailer tow package, cruise control, a manual sliding rear window, a power sunroof and SiriusXM Satellite Radio will be among options, to name a few.

2022 Ford Maverick Engines
For now, we are 100% sure about two engine options for the 2022 Ford Maverick. Interestingly, the first one is a hybrid. The system will be based on a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which will get help from an electric motor, for a total output of 191 horsepower. It will come coupled with a CVT gearbox, while the max towing capacity is expected to go around 1500-2000 pounds.
If you’re up for something more powerful, the Blue Oval company will offer its well-known 2.0-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 250 horsepower. It will definitely offer better driving dynamics, while it’s also important to mention that this version will be coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission. The max towing capacity with this engine will go up to 4000 pounds. For comparison, the upcoming Hyundai Santa Cruz will be good for about 5000 pounds.
2022 Ford Maverick Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2022 Ford Maverick will arrive this fall. The latest reports suggest a quite affordable starting price of around 21.500 dollars. That will make it a significantly cheaper (and smaller) alternative to the mid-size Honda Ridgeline. Of course, Hyundai Santa Cruz should be the toughest rival.
