The famous nameplate came back to the market last year, though with a notably different design. Now, we expect to see the second production year model, which will come in the form of the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer. From what we know so far, it won’t come with too many changes. That seems perfect, considering the model’s freshness. At this point, we know only that four color options will be dropped from the offer, as well as one optional package. Other than that, things are about to remain the same.
So, you may count on a subcompact crossover, which is affordable and has several good things to offer. We like its look, while the cabin offers a fair amount of space. Also, the list of standard equipment is pretty long, while the infotainment system is easy to use. However, the lack of changes also means that the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer will continue to offer a not particularly comfortable ride.
We expect to see the next year’s model sometime in the last quarter of 2021.
2022 Chevy Trailblazer Redesign
Design-wise, things definitely won’t change for the next year. We are about to see the same design that was initially introduced for the 2021 model year, which rides on the company’s new VSS platform and shares most of its parts with Buick Encore GX. With 103.9 inches in wheelbase, it features a quite typical size for the segment.
Styling-wise, the new crossover takes a lot of inspiration from bigger siblings. This particularly refers to the mid-size Blazer, as well as to the legendary Camaro sports car. For the next year, we won’t see changes in terms of the styling. On the other hand, the company will drop four color options from the offer – Midnight Blue Metallic, Dark Copper Metallic, Scarlet Red Metallic, and Pacific Blue Metallic. Another thing that won’t be on the offer anymore is the Performance Package.
When it comes to interior design, things will remain pretty much the same. This particularly refers to the overall layout, which has a lot of nice things to offer, despite the small size and affordable price. Even though we are talking about a subcompact crossover, the Trailblazer has enough room inside the cabin to accommodate adults in both rows. The front seats offer a decent amount of support, while the driving position is also good. When it comes to the cargo area, this small SUV offers around 25.3 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats upright and 54.4 cubic feet, which is above-average for the segment.
The overall interior quality is good. You may count on a mix of soft and hard-touch materials, which is a typical thing in this segment. Still, everything looks pretty nice and the dashboard seems really appealing.
We don’t expect to see bigger changes in terms of standard and available features. Base models should continue with a pretty familiar list of standard equipment as in the current model. This would mean things like keyless entry, a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, two USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Higher trim levels should offer automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, remote start, cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, an 8-inch touch screen, HD Radio, satellite radio, two additional USB ports, a six- or seven-speaker stereo, and wireless device charging.
In terms of safety, the current model comes standard with goodies like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. There are also options like rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.
2022 Chevy Trailblazer Engine
The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer will continue in two familiar variants regarding powertrain. Base models will come with a slightly smaller 1.2-liter turbo three-cylinder engine, which puts out around 137 horsepower. It comes in pair with a CVT gearbox, offering mediocre performance. It returns 28 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.
The optional 1.3-liter engine is good for about 155 horsepower and comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, it is also available in an AWD version, which isn’t the case with the base version. It is definitely a better choice, especially if we consider that it is also more efficient. You may count on about 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
2022 Chevy Trailblazer Release Date and Price
As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer will hit the market in the last quarter of 2021. The price shouldn’t change significantly either. So, base versions should cost around 19.500 dollars. The competition in this segment is very tough. Some of the key players in the segment are models like Honda HR-V, Toyota C-HR, Hyundai Kona etc.
