2020 Ford Bronco review

A few years ago, most experts considered body-on-frame SUVs as a dying segment but things are a little bit different these days. There are several all-new models that are about to come back soon and the new 2020 Ford Bronco is among them. The famous SUV was in production for full three decades. The original version came 52 years ago, while production finally ended in 1996. Since then, we saw the Bronco just for one more time, but in a form of a concept.

Despite being absent for full 22 years, rumors about its revival have never vanished. Moreover, the became more intense in the past few years, definitely for a good reason. The revival has been officially confirmed and the new model is about to come in about a year, as 2020 Ford Bronco. Most details about the new model are still a mystery. However, some things look pretty certain and that mostly refers to the platform and mechanics.

2020 Ford Bronco Design

After more than two decades, the legendary nameplate is coming back. Although many presumed a modern crossover, the new 2020 Ford Bronco will stick to its roots. It will come as a classic body-on-frame mid-size SUV, positioned below the Expedition. If you are familiar with the latest news from the “blue oval” company, you probably know that another legendary model is coming back. We are talking about the mid-size truck, the Ranger. Therefore, Bronco’s revival seems like a natural thing, considering that two models are similar in size and that will share a lot of design characteristics.

Two models will use the same platform. Basically, it is the same architecture that the Australian department has been using for their Ranger for several years. Of course, we count on various upgrades on the architecture. Without any doubt, it will borrow many new design solutions from the F-150, especially in terms of use of lightweight materials, particularly HSS and aluminum. Such an approach will definitely improve efficiency, as well as overall performances.

2020 Ford Bronco Styling

We came to the point when we are done with the things we know about the 2020 Ford Bronco. Unlike the mechanics, the aesthetical aspect of the new SUV is still a mystery. As you probably know, the 2004 concept came with a  pretty unusual look, with uber bold and boxy shape, but it was clear at that time that it would never enter serial production. So, we count on a more ordinary 2020 Ford Bronco.

Along with the Ranger pickup, the Australian department already produces an SUV called Everest, which could serve as a starting point for the new Bronco. This model comes with a  common SUV layout and we can count on similar dimensions, wheelbase, chassis setup etc. On the other side, we have no doubt that the Bronce will come with a nice amount of exclusive styling details. Some reports suggest both 3- and 5-door cabin layouts. This suggests that the company plans to compete with a wider range of models, including the new-generation Wrangler.

Interior

This aspect currently leaves plenty of space for speculations. Compared to the Ranger, which will be a classic pickup truck with a focus on capabilities, the 2020 Ford Bronco will aim for a wide range of customers. Therefore, we definitely expect to see a little bit more exclusive cabin layout. This would mean new styling elements, but more importantly, more hi-quality and soft-touch materials. Of course, count on a long list of standard equipment as well, which would consist of the latest tech and safety features.

2020 Ford Bronco Engines

Expect to see 2020 Ford Bronco with the company’s familiar EcoBoost units. Most likely, the offer will start with four cylinders. This leads us to a new 2.3-liter turbo inline-four, which is good for about 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.

Higher trims will come with six cylinders for sure. There is a familiar 2.7-liter unit, which delivers around 325 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there is a big chance to see a hi-performance version. This model would probably come with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, though the exact figures are still under question.

Many reports also suggest a diesel version of the new 2020 Ford Bronco. We have no doubt that this model would come with the same engine that powers the Australian Ranger Raptor. It is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder oil burner. It comes with twin turbochargers and delivers around 210 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque.

All engines should be paired with a  new 10-speed automatic transmission.
