Based on the Opel Mokka, the original Encore came in early 2013. Six years later, the company prepares a complete redesign. Despite the current model is still quite competitive, Buick wants to introduce a new generation as soon as possible. According to the latest reports, it will definitely be ready by the end of the year and come as the 2020 Buick Encore. The testing model already rides on the road, though it doesn’t show too much. It still wears a complete camouflage but some of the details about the next-generation model are already pretty much certain. First of all, it won’t be just redesigned, but completely re-engineered as well.
The company is about to present a lot of novelties with this small crossover, both in terms of mechanics and aesthetics. Still, the overall design approach won’t be much different, so the 2020 Buick Encore is about to come with similar dimensions and overall design philosophy. Expect to see it in the second half of the year.
2020 Buick Encore Redesign
This redesign is about to bring a lot of interesting novelties. As you probably know, the original model was heavily based on the Opel Mokka. The German company is not a part of General Motors anymore, so Buick will design the new model on its own. It will be completely redesigned and re-engineered. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. Despite the testing model already rides on the road, experts cannot agree about the platform. It will be one of two derivates of the GM’s familiar VSS platform.
The new 2020 Buick Encore will ride either on a VSS-F or VSS-S. The latter one is designed particularly for SUVs but keep in mind that the Encore is in reality somewhere between an SUV and a hatchback.
In any case, the new model won’t change too much in terms of the size. The new 2020 Buick Encore will continue to be the smallest SUV in the company’s lineup, representing this brand in the segment of subcompact crossover. In practice, this means competing with models like Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V etc.

As we already mentioned, the 2020 Buick Encore will come with similar dimensions and proportions, but count on completely new aesthetics. The testing model has been spotted but we can’t say too much about its styling at the moment. Typically for this stage of development, it still wears a complete camouflage. Therefore, we can only speculate about the model’s styling. At this point, we can presume that the new model will be adapted to the company’s newest design language. In practice, this would mean more evolutionary than revolutionary changes. The new model should come with a little bit sharper approach. With a new multi-point grille, narrower headlights, and similar additions.
2020 Buick Encore Interior
The current model features a pretty well-made cabin, full of quality materials, and we have no doubt that the new 2020 Buick Encore will continue in the same ways. Crossovers from this brand usually stand somewhere between mainstream and premium segment and the new entry-level model will stick strictly to this philosophy. Therefore, count on a little bit more upscale cabin compared to the competition, but keep in mind that this will probably affect the price as well.
Considering that the new model won’t feature bigger changes in terms of dimensions, you can count on similar interior space as in the first-generation model. That means quite comfortable front seats and a typical rear bench that can accommodate three, but best works for two adult passengers. The cargo area should be above-average for the class. Like in the current model, the passenger’s seat should be able to fold down.
2020 Buick Encore Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, latest reports suggest that the current 1.4-liter engine will carry on. It is a familiar unit which in the current version delivers around 138 horsepower. It comes tuned to over 150 horses in higher trims. Most likely, we won’t see any changes in terms of max outputs. On the other side, there is a big chance to see a bigger and far more powerful option as well. If we can rely on the latest reports, it looks like Cadillac’s new 2.0-liter turbo-four will find the place under the hood as well. This one is good for about 240 horsepower. Both engines will come in a pair with the company’s new 9-speed automatic transmission.
2020 Buick Encore Release Date and Price
The new 2020 Buick Encore is in a final stage of development. Therefore, it will definitely come in the second half of the next year. More precisely, it should be the last quarter of the year. When it comes to the price, we don’t expect bigger changes compared to the current model. So, base versions should go around 23/24.000 dollars.
