The new, 12th generation of the famous SUV is in the late stage of development and it will hit the market next year, as the 2020 Chevy Suburban. Those are the latest reports about the famous full-size SUV, which is about to receive all the novelty that we have seen the premiere in the new-generation Chevy Silverado. This includes various kinds of novelties, starting from a new platform, completely new styling, interior layout and much more. On the other side, the base layout will stay close to the outgoing model, which has been around since 2014.
Considering such a short turnaround, we don’t expect bigger changes in terms of powertrain, at least when it comes to V8 units. On the other side, a new turbo inline-four should find its place under the hood as well. Most likely, the new 2020 Chevy Suburban will hit the market sometime in the next fall.
2020 Chevy Suburban Redesign
The upcoming redesign is about to bring lots of novelties. Despite being completely camouflaged, the new model is definitely in the final stage of development. Even at this point, we know most things about the new generation. It seems obvious that the 2020 Chevy Suburban is about to utilize GM’s new T1 platform that debuted recently in the 2019 Silverado. Compared to the previous model, the new Suburban will save around 300 pounds, according to the latest reports. This will definitely have a highly positive effect on performances, economy and overall driving characteristics.
Of course, a new platform means a lot of new design solutions. One of the most interesting will be a new suspension setup. Though the testing model wears a deep cover, it is quite easy to notice an independent rear suspension. This is clearly Chevy’s response to the new Expedition, which also offers such a feature. In practice, this would mean significantly improved comfort, especially in the second and third row of seating. However, we still don’t know if this going to be a standard feature, or available in higher trims only.

Of course, the upcoming redesign will bring completely new styling as well. It’s not hard to guess that the 2020 Chevy Suburban will use the same design language as the recently-introduced Silverado 1500. Two models have been sharing aesthetics so far. So, there is no reason why they shouldn’t continue in the same way. In practice, this means the same front end, which is highlighted by a new couple of headlights and a bumper that comes with interesting side curtains. Rest of the SUV should keep the familiar wagon-like shape, with minimal changes in dimensions.
2020 Chevy Suburban Interior Design
This is one of the aspects in which we expect to see some significant improvements. First of all, this would refer to the interior space. The current model is very spacious, but still features a pretty limited third row of seating, which definitely can’t accommodate adult passengers. This is the aspect where GM should make some improvements. Still, the way the company is going to do it is unknown. Are we going to see a little bit longer wheelbase or more efficient usage of space, it is hard to tell at the moment.
On the other side, there is no doubt that the new 2020 Chevy Suburban will come with a new interior layout, which will provide more attractive cabin. Besides more practicality, the new model should also come with more style on the inside. This primarily refers to the dashboard, which will come with sleeker lines, better-quality materials, and new color combinations. Of course, count on lots of new standard features, including some advances driver aids and safety features. One of them should be GM’s new Super Cruise, which is already available in some Cadillac models. It is one of the most advanced semi-autonomous driving systems in the automotive industry today, which allows completely hands-free driving on highways, no matter the speed.
2020 Chevy Suburban Engines
The new 2020 Chevy Suburban is about to keep current V8 engines, but also to come with some interesting novelties. We expect to see a new turbo inline-four in the offer. It is an efficient 2.7-liter engine, which delivers around 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.
When it comes to V8 units, the smaller one is a familiar 5.3-liter engine, which delivers around 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. A bigger one, 6.2-liter engine should carry on as well. It delivers around 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. All engines should come in a pair with a new 10-speed automatic gearbox.
Some reports also suggest a diesel version in the offer, though we haven’t heard anything from the officials yet.
2020 Chevy Suburban Release Date and Price
According to the latest reports, the 2020 Chevy Suburban release date will be scheduled for the third quarter of the next year. We don’t expect bigger changes in terms of price, so base models will probably go around 50.000 dollars.
