Despite the age, the current generation of the Escape competes pretty well in the crowded segment of the compact crossover. Characterized by good driving dynamics and pretty versatile overall design, this crossover still makes quite good sales results. However, Ford already finishes the process of redesigning and a completely new generation is about to hit the market later this year. It will come as the 2020 Ford Escape and it will feature a lot of interesting novelties. First of all, it will ride on a new platform and become slightly bigger. Of course, we count on a completely new aesthetics, as well as on a new engine lineup. Besides familiar EcoBoost units, the 2020 Ford Escape should come in a hybrid version as well. The new model is in a final stage of development and should hit the market pretty soon, sometime in the second half of the year.

2020 Ford Escape Redesign
This redesign is about to bring a lot of novelties and new mechanics are definitely some of those things that first come to mind. As you may presume, the new generation will once again come heavily based on the famous Focus hatchback, maybe even more than before. It will ride on the same platform and share most of the parts. Interestingly, a new model is about to grow for a bit. Count on a couple of more inches in the wheelbase as well as in overall length, width, and height. The reason is simple. The subcompact EcoSport also became slightly bigger, while the company is also making space for a new small off-roader. No matter the reason, this size increase will bring benefits in terms of interior space and practicality. On the other side, the use of new materials will keep the crossover light, maybe even lighter than before.

2020 Ford Escape Styling
Of course, aesthetics are always the most notable things when it comes to redesigns. The 2020 Ford Escape won’t be an exception, so count on a completely new styling. The testing model has been spotted on the road recently. It still wears a complete camouflage, but we can notice some of the most basic styling solutions. First of all, it is pretty clear that the changes will be evolutionary. The 2020 Ford Escape will come with a similar shape, while the overall styling approach won’t be too radical. Practically, we expect to see the same front face as on the new Focus. This means a little bit less sharp and smoother lines, while grille and headlights will come just with slight reshapings.
Compared to the Focus, the 2020 Ford Escape will come with a little bit boxier rear end. Of course, count also on higher ground clearance and all those underbody protections.

2020 Ford Escape Interior
Despite the fact that we actually haven’t seen the new interior, we are pretty sure how the 2020 Ford Escape will look like on the inside. We have no doubt that the new model will feature pretty much the same cabin as the new Focus. This particularly refers to the dashboard layout, which is about to be identical. We will see the same dash that keeps most controls analog, which will be highly appreciated by many drivers. Also, the overall quality is at a higher level than before. Lines are smoother, while materials are finer, soft on touch and more durable.
The overall cabin layout will be typical for a compact crossover. Count on two spacious rows of seating and decent cargo capacity. Some reports also suggest an optional third row, which can be found in the new VW Touareg. Still, be sure it will be very tight.

2020 Ford Escape Engines
We expect to see a familiar line of EcoBoost engines in the offer for the 2020 Ford Escape. This refers primarily to four-cylinder units, though some reports suggest even three-cylinder engines in the offer. In our opinion, this sounds unlikely and we are pretty sure that Ford will focus on proven four-cylinder units.
We expect that the current base engine, a 2.5-liter atmospheric unit will be dropped. Base models will probably feature a 1.5-liter turbo-four, which is currently the first option and which delivers around 180 horsepower. Of course, a slight boost in power is possible. A 2.0-liter EcoBoost should carry on as well. This unit is currently good for about 245 horsepower and we probably won’t see bigger modifications for this occasion, at least in the first couple of years. Both engines will come with an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to front wheels. All-wheel drive will be also available.
Also, we count on a plug-in hybrid version in the future, though exact details are still unknown.
2020 Ford Escape Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2020 Ford Escape will hit the market sometime in the third quarter of the year. The base price shouldn’t change too much compared to the current model, which goes around 24.000 dollars.
