Times when the Pathfinder was a capable off-roader are gone. These days, it is nothing more than another crossover. To be even worse, it is a vehicle that lags behind class leaders in so many aspects, so most experts don’t see it as a quite competitive model. Therefore, the next-generation 2020 Nissan Pathfinder has been rumored. It looks like we are about to see a complete overhaul, which is about to bring plenty of novelties and bring back this model to the old paths of glory. Don’t get too excited, we won’t see body-on-frame chassis once again.
The new model will continue as a crossover, but with much better characteristics. Count on a new styling, better ride quality, more refined interior, new engines and much more. Latest reports suggest 2020 Nissan Pathfinder could come already by the end of next year.
2020 Nissan Pathfinder Redesign
We expect to see lots of improvement with this 2020 Nissan Pathfinder redesign. First of all, the new model will come on the newest version of the company’s famous D Platform. In practice, this should bring much better driving dynamics, which has been one of the weakest points of the current model. Of course, count on some weight savings and better aerodynamics, which would provide better efficiency, which eventually means better mpg ratings. In terms of size, the new models shouldn’t change too much, though some reports suggest a little bit longer wheelbase, which would be beneficial in many ways.
2020 Nissan Pathfinder Styling
In terms of exterior design, we expect to see the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder with much more style. As you probably know, the current generation is the first to ride on a unibody platform. Therefore, the company didn’t want to make radical moves in terms of aesthetics, so the current version comes with an unusually boxy shape. Things should change with this redesign. The new model should come with a sleeker layout. Count on the brand’s newest design language, with the newest version of the famous V-Motion grille and other styling details. As we already mentioned, the new model might be a little larger. The rear end will probably come with a more stylish layout, without angular lines. Due to the bigger size, this approach shouldn’t affect the overall practicality too much.
2020 Nissan Pathfinder Interior
As we already mentioned, the current generation is kinda transitional, while the new one should finally leave behind its body-on-frame past. This refers to the aesthetics, especially on the inside. As you can see, the current model comes with a pretty straightforward cabin layout, which is full of plastics surfaces and bulky details. The new 2020 Nissan Pathfinder interior will feature much more style and come with a car-like cabin, like a real modern crossover. This includes not just sleeker dashboard lines, but also more refined materials. Of course, count on more standard equipment, different seating position etc.
In terms of the base layout, the new 2020 Nissan Pathfinder will continue as a three-row crossover. One of the biggest issues in the current model are the second and third rows of seating. The second row is characterized by a little awkward seating position, while the third one is really tight and definitely can’t accommodate adult passengers. We have no doubt that Nissan engineers will put a lot of efforts to solve these problems.
2020 Nissan Pathfinder Engines
Compared to other aspects of the vehicle, the powertrain compartment stands pretty well. While the handling might be questionable, the engine works amazingly in the current model. It is a familiar 3.5-liter V6, which delivers around 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Such amount of power guarantees strong acceleration. However, this crossover is also characterized by a smooth and quiet ride, thanks to a CVT transmission. Fuel economy is also on a high level. You can count on 20 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway, which are above-average numbers for the segment. Given the characteristics of the current powertrain, we are pretty sure that the next generation will keep the same engine. Of course, a couple of tweaks for better efficiency are certain. Some reports also suggest a new hybrid powertrain, though we haven’t heard anything from the officials yet.
2020 Nissan Pathfinder Release Date and Price
Although we are still waiting for the official confirmation, a complete redesign in the near future is a certain thing. Even if the new generation doesn’t come as the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder, it will come one year later, or something like that. In any case, we don’t expect bigger changes in the price compared to the current model. It features a starting price of around 31.000 dollars. Competition in the segment is strong. Some of the leaders in the class are models like Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX-9, VW Atlas, Buick Enclave etc.
