According to the latest reports, the 2020 Volvo XC90 is about to come with a pack of changes. The company’s flagship crossover has been around for years. The current, second generation is on sale since 2014, which makes us easy to conclude that a mid-cycle refresh is on its way. Although there is still no official confirmation, we are pretty sure that this will happen already this year, for the 2020 Volvo XC90 model.
Since there are no words from the officials, we can only speculate about possible changes. Without any doubt, the focus will be on visual upgrades. Changes on the inside are possible as well. On the other side, don’t see many mechanical changes possible. The current engine lineup is pretty wide and there is no real need for changes at the moment. Considering the possible updates, the 2020 Volvo XC90 should arrive earlier than usual.

2020 Volvo XC90 Redesign
As we already mentioned, the current generation is on the market for about five years. It was of the first models to get on the company’s new SPA platform, which is highly modular and suitable for all sizes of vehicles. The upcoming update probably won’t bring changes in terms of base design characteristics. We are about to see a familiar layout. The current model is pretty good in most aspects. The only big complaint goes for the ride quality, which feels too busy for the premium segment. Therefore, it won’t be a surprise to see some modifications on the suspension. Rest of the mechanics should remain unchanged.
While the technical aspect of the SUV is about to remain pretty much unchanged, we are pretty sure that there is a fine amount of visual updates to come. Without any doubt, the focus will be on the front end. Exact details are still unknown but have a good reason to believe that headlights will come with a slightly narrower layout. Changes on the grille and front bumper are possible too. The rear end should also come with a couple of modifications, on areas like rear bumper, tailgate, taillights etc. From the side, we don’t expect bigger changes, except new wheels. Finally, count on new color options.

2020 Volvo XC90 Interior
The interior design is definitely one of the model’s strongest points, so we don’t expect some crucial changes to the inside. The base layout will remain unchanged. There is a choice between two- and three-row models. First two rows of seats offer a spectacular level of comfort, among bests in the class. On the other side, the third row is typical for mid-size crossovers. It is great for children and short people, but even average-sized adults won’t feel too comfortable. Also, a flagship model comes with two rows of seating and second-row captain’s chairs, so capacity goes down to four. It this model, all seats are heated, ventilated, with massaging functions etc.
The XC90 doesn’t offer plenty of space just for passengers. It is also one of the roomiest models in the class when it comes to cargo capacity. There is a space of 16 cubic feet behind the third row. Once this row folds down, the capacity increases to 42 cubic feet. The overall cargo capacity is really impressive. It goes up to 86 cubic feet.
As you can see, this SUV is strong in all points when it comes to the interior design, so we don’t expect bigger changes for the next year. Still, don’t exclude a possibility of new color schemes and similar things.

2020 Volvo XC90 Features
A long list of standard equipment is another great thing about this crossover. This particularly refers to tech and safety features. In terms of gadgetry and other tech goodies, one of the highlights is a large 9-inch touchscreen, which controls pretty much everything inside the cabin. The only physical buttons at the center stack are audio knobs.
In terms of safety, list of standard features includes things like rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, following distance indicator, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, driver attention monitoring, and speed limit recognition. This pretty long list can be expanded with systems like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, oncoming collision mitigation, and pedestrian detection.
2020 Volvo XC90 Engines
The engine lineup definitely won’t change for the next year. The 2020 Volvo XC90 will continue with a wide offer of engines, which starts with a 2.0-liter turbo-four gasoline unit that delivers around 250 horses. This engine is also available in a version with both turbo and supercharger, which delivers 316 horsepower. The same version of the engine can be coupled with electric motors and battery pack, so a max output goes up to 400 horsepower. On some markets, diesel units with either 190 or 225 horses are also available.

2020 Volvo XC90 Release Date and Price
Considering the expected mid-cycle refresh, the 2020 Volvo XC90 should come earlier than usual, probably sometime in the third quarter of the year. Price should remain unchanged, which means a wide range between 48.000 and 105.000 dollars.
