Santa Fe used to be the largest SUV by Hyundai. Now, with the Palisade out, that is not the case. The carmaker even discontinued the three-row XL version. If we compare the happenings in recent years, we can say that 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe is a mid-size model, positioned at the place of ix35, while this nameplate became a compact Tucson.
The vehicle is currently in its fourth generation, which debuted in 2018. We still don’t have any announcements if the company is going to bring the first update. With the new Palisade out and a couple of other projects already announced, the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe should be unchanged. The mid-cycle update is waiting for the 2022 season.

The Focus in on Big Rigs and Crossovers
The mid-size class is not as popular as the compact segment. Plus, only three-row models can cope with their smaller siblings. So, it is obvious why the new Tucson is under the revisit and it brings the new N Performance Sport model. The Korean company recently launched the all-new three-row Palisade, but the plan is to bring even larger vehicle Rugged SUV could be a premium model that will take on the Toyota Land Cruiser. Well, Hyundai is following modern trends. Luxury crossovers and SUVs will be developed under subsidiary brand Genesis.
Why Buy 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe? And Why Not?
The base version of the mid-size crossover SUV comes with sub-par performance. A naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine is more suitable for the compact class. On the other hand, a turbocharged unit going to surprise you with its power. Also, the company worked a lot on the driving system. Handling and AWD systems are providing a unique experience. Still, the fuel economy is not among the best in the class. Plus, the model is not offering off-road skills you would like to see. By cutting down the third row and XL model, the company showed that Palisade is becoming the flagship model in the crossover SUV segment.

Engine and Specs
The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe is not going to impress you with its outputs. The base version is packed with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Naturally-aspirated, it can’t produce massive power. Some compact crossovers can do better than 185 hp and 178 lb-ft. A fuel economy of 25 mpg is not impressive as well since some rivals with the V6 engine will be more efficient. Still, the AWD is smooth and improves handling. It won’t cost you too much since it consumes only 1 mpg more than the FWD system.
With the turbocharged engine, the situation changes. This one is good for 235 horsepower and 260 lb-ft. A significant boost is good for 2,500 pounds of towing capacity. The 0-60 acceleration time takes 7.5 seconds, while the base model needs nearly 9 sec. An eight-speed automatic gearbox is standard for both drivetrains.
Will There Be a V6?
The company discontinued the V6 engine. A 3.3-liter unit was large and not too efficient. Still, we can hear rumors that some versions of the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe could get it again. Without a firm foundation, we doubt this is possible. The only way to see it coming is if the company develops a hybrid drivetrain based on the V6 engine. Well, the carmaker will probably go after the electrification of a four-pot motor first, so it can compete in the compact segment. On the other hand, this one would be also good for the mid-size model with two rows of seats.
