2020 Jeep Cherokee review

The current generation of the popular compact crossover is getting close to the end of the production cycle. As you probably know, it has been around since 2013. Last year, we saw a facelift that brought a lot of changes, especially in terms of the styling. Of course, the front end was on the focus, but other areas suffered as well. We saw changes in other aspects of the vehicle as well. The interior has been upgraded, as well as the powertrain lineup. All in all, plenty of reasons to believe that the 2020 Jeep Cherokee will continue in the same way, without more important changes.

Moreover, the current shape should remain untouched for another couple of years, probably until we see a complete redesign. Therefore, be sure that the 2020 Jeep Cherokee will come in the usual time of year, which in this case means late 2019.

In terms of base design characteristic, this crossover definitely won’t change. It will ride on the same familiar Compact US Wide platform. Interestingly, most of the models that are based on this architecture ended their production. The Cherokee is a rare bird these days. Still, that doesn’t mean we are talking about some old, outdated SUV. This model still has a lot to offer. The styling has been updated last year. Without any doubt, the best thing about this update was the fact that Cherokee dropped that funny-looking super-narrow headlights design. It has got a new grille as well. All in all, the new model is now much closer to the company’s familiar design language, particularly to the look of the flagship Grand Cherokee. Considering all the visual changes that came with the recent update, the 2020 Jeep Cherokee will continue in the same way, possibly only with some minor changes like new color options etc.

Since the initial launch of the current generation, the Cherokee was characterized by an upscale-looking cabin. Therefore, there was really no need for bigger changes last year. We saw only changes in terms of better materials quality, new upholstery in some trims, as well as technology updates.

However, the base cabin layout has remained the same and we are pretty sure that 2020 Jeep Cherokee won’t feature bigger changes either. Once again, the company will offer a stylish, well-built cabin which besides great quality also offers a lot of space. The crossover comes in a pretty common two-row layout. All seats are massive and supportive and feature plenty of leg and headroom. On the other side, one of the issues is below-average cargo space. You can count on 26 cubic feet behind rear seats, which is way behind class leaders. For example, the CR-V features almost 40 cubic feet in this area.

Since the update, a 7-inch touchscreen is a standard feature. Of course, it runs the famous UConnect infotainment system, which is probably the easiest to use in class. Other interesting tech features that are standard in base models are latest smartphone integration systems – Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A bigger 8.4-inch touchscreen is available, as well as satellite radio, navigation, premium sound system etc.

2020 Jeep Cherokee Safety

We can definitely say that this crossover is a safe vehicle to drive. It earned an average rating of four stars on a crash test. Also, a list of available safety features is quite long. A rearview camera and parking sensors are standard features across the whole range of models. On the other side, available features are automatic high beams, forward collision warning, automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, park assist etc.

2020 Jeep Cherokee Engines

The recent update has brought one important novelty under the hood, so there are three engines in the offer now. Base models are equipped with a 2.4-liter engine that delivers around 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. This definitely isn’t a spectacular amount of power.

Fortunately, there are two powerful options in the offer. The first one is a familiar Pentastar V6 engine that delivers around 270 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque.

The recent facelift has brought a new 2.0-liter turbo-four, which also features a max power of 270 horses, but far more torque than the V6 (295 lb-ft).

All engines come with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to fuel economy, the Cherokee doesn’t shine. With the base engine, you can count on 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. A new turbo-four is slightly better, so you can count on one more mpg in the city. Of course, V6 models are the thirstiest. An average economy with this engine goes around 20 mpg in the city and 29 in the class.
