The famous SUV maker is finally entering the big game, according to the latest reports. It looks like we are finally about to see a full-size SUV from this company. Jeep is about to revive one of its most famous nameplates, the Wagoneer. This model was in production for decades, until 1992, when another legend, Grand Cherokee arrived.
The model will come back after more than 27 years. It will be a traditional, body-on-frame SUV, which will compete with models like Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition. Those would be the only things we know for sure at this point. Other aspects leave lots of space for speculations. This includes the release date as well, which will most likely happen in the second half of next year. Along with the 2020 Jeep Wagoneer, count on the Grand Wagoneer which will be a stretched-wheelbase version of the new SUV.
2020 Jeep Wagoneer Redesign
From what we know about 2020 Jeep Wagoneer, it will be a full-size SUV. It seems pretty much for sure that this model will be based on a traditional, body-on-frame architecture. Considering that Jeep is a part of the FCA group, it won’t be hard to guess which platform the new model will use. The legendary Ram 1500 has been redesigned recently. It comes with a completely new platform, which brings some new design solutions and technologies. Most importantly, it is lighter than before. We count that the new 2020 Jeep Wagoneer will benefit from this platform in the same way. Expect to see the same wheelbase, which will provide plenty of space on the inside.
2020 Jeep Wagoneer Styling
The styling is a bit of a mystery at the moment. At this point, there is no doubt that the new SUV will feature a classic, wagon-like body style. Most likely, we are about to see a very boxy shape, especially at the rear end, which will provide a lot of cargo space and better overall practicality. On the front end, we expect to see Jeep’s new design language.
Practically, we shouldn’t see a face that is too much different compared to the Grand Cherokee. Still, keep in mind that the famous mid-size SUV is also waiting for the redesign in the near future, so count on a bunch of subtle novelties. Also, the 2020 Jeep Wagoneer will probably be more muscular, due to its truckish nature. In practice, this would mean more muscles on fender areas, rugged bumpers, higher ground clearance etc. The Grand Wagoneer will feature practically the same look, just with a longer wheelbase and more inches in length.
2020 Jeep Wagoneer Interior
The one thing that is for sure is that 2020 Jeep Wagoneer will feature plenty of space on the inside. Just like its competitors from Chevy and Ford, count on three rows of seating. The first two rows should be very generous in terms of legroom, while the third one could possibly be a little tight for taller passengers. The Grand Wagoneer will solve this potential problem. Same goes to the cargo space, though the basic version should be large enough to compete with other models in the class.
While the overall layout seems pretty clear, we still can’t predict how the dashboard will look like. We count on a similar approach as in the new Ram 1500. The new truck features a very upscale interior, with stylish dashboard design and lots of quality materials. Definitely better than other trucks in the class. Still, keep in mind that the new SUV will come under a different badge, so new styling solutions seem certain. Expect a lot of inspiration from the new Wrangler, which came completely redesigned recently, with a fancy-looking, waterproof interior.
2020 Jeep Wagoneer Engines
This aspect shouldn’t bring bigger surprises. The 2020 Jeep Wagoneer will most likely come with a wide range of engines. Count FCA’s familiar units. The base engine will probably be a familiar 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar, tuned somewhere to 310 horsepower. Of course, count on various eight-cylinder units as well.
The first one that comes to our minds is a 5.7-liter unit with around 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. A bigger 6.4-liter engine should be in the offer as well. This one delivers around 475 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque. It won’t be surprised if we also see a hi-performance version with a monstrous 707-hp 6.2-liter Hellcat engine.
Some reports also suggest a diesel version of the new SUV. That would be a familiar 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit, which delivers around 260 horses and 440 pound-feet of torque.
All engines will come with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox.
2020 Jeep Wagoneer Release Date and Price
Most likely, the new 2020 Jeep Wagoneer will come sometime in the second half of the next year. Base models should go somewhere between 45.000 and 50.000 dollars. Key rivals will be Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition, but there are also models like Toyota Sequoia, Nissan Armada etc.
