The first mid-cycle update of the smallest Audi crossover is scheduled for 2022. Meanwhile, the 2021 Audi Q3 will be unchanged until then. The company launched the current version last year, a model for 2020 is also coming with minor modifications. So, we can assume that the German carmaker is paying a lot more attention to new arrivals, such as Q1 and Q8.
The 2021 Audi Q3 will be on par with its archrival, BMW X1. Both crossovers are offering only a 2.0-liter turbo engine. It seems like we will have to wait a bit more before the company brings a new drivetrain. Still, in Europe and Asia, there are other powerplants, including diesel and performance-oriented RS model. The downside compared to the main rival is the lack of a hybrid unit.
Premium and Prestige models are still trim levels for the new crossover. However, there are a few interesting packages that will help you upgrade the drive. The good thing is that Quattro AWD is standard all across the lineup.
2021 Audi Q3 Engine Updates
One of the bad things about the 2021 Audi Q3 is the lack of engine options. Well, an existing 2.0-liter turbo-four is pretty capable. However, it is also very thirsty. With 19 mpg in the city, you would never guess that Q3 is the subcompact crossover. Outside, on the open road, the vehicle is more efficient. It will return 28 mpg. A 2.0 engine creates 230 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic gearbox is a power router and Q3 hits 60 mph in seven seconds.
After the season without updates, we can expect something small for the 2021 Audi Q3. One of the options is the new drivetrain. The hybrid version based on the E-Tron system should be there to compete with BMW X3 xDrive25e. Another possibility is a smaller displacement. A 1.4-liter turbo-four is a European unit with 150 hp. A 2.0 is also tuned for 180-200 hp, while the top of the range is the RS Q3 version with 350 ponies.
Diesel lineup also offers various configurations for a 2.0-liter displacement. Buyers will get 120, 150, or 180 hp, plus 220, 250, and 280 pound-feet of torque.
2021 Audi Q3 Features
The base Q3 is the Premium package with a 10-inch infotainment screen sitting at the center of the dashboard. The carmaker offers LED lights and smart high-beam. The same lamps are in rear lights. Advanced safety options are already available in the entry-level model. Other highlights are a panoramic sunroof and automatic tri-zone climate. The S Line package is an available upgrade for this trim.
You can also pick the Premium Plus version with unique DRLs. Plus means the safety is on the higher level with rear cross-traffic alert and lane change assist. Keyless features become available, with start, stop, and a hands-free tailgate. There are few other minor upgrades around the crossover to make it more convenient.
With the 2021 Audi Q3 Prestige, you will get the most features. First of all, the MMI system becomes standard and the 12-inch display is the center of the so-called Virtual Cockpit. Of course, the audio system comes from the well-known B&O with a total of 680 watts and 15 speakers. More sensors and smart functions will draw attention and make the drive safer.
The upcoming model will be mostly unchanged because of other changes in the lineup. The German carmaker obtained rights for the entire Q1-Q9 segment after some while. The priority is the full-size model, larger than Q7. It will be Q8 and the first teaser images are showing us what it would look. Besides that, Audi is working on the Q1. We still don’t know precisely what this crossover is going to be, but some rumors indicate an all-electric version or coupe model.
2021 Audi Q3 vs BMW X1
The battle is ongoing. Both vehicles are using the same displacement with the same power outputs. BMW offers a two-wheel drive for its subcompact product. Still, this is not the major lack. But, the fuel economy is stumbling the Q3. This is the main reason why we believe Audi is going to introduce a new engine, either a smaller displacement or hybrid. People are buying subcompact vehicles because of their efficiency. Whoever needs more power or space, opts for a larger Q5 or Q7. So, one of the rare advantages is of such vehicles is not there, which leaves the Q3 at an attractive price only.
Without big changes, the release date of the 2021 Audi Q3 won’t happen any time soon. However, if the company decides to introduce a performance version or hybrid unit, that will be a reason for a big debut. These novelties won’t affect the base price of the Premium version, which will start under $35,000. Premium Plus adds $3,000 and the heavily-loaded Prestige will cost you $44,000 before upgrades.
